Baseball: Gabrielino pitching sensation Angel Acosta is the nation's strikeout leader among sophomores

| | Comments (18) |

Gabrielino's Angel Acosta is proving more and more that he's a man among boys. The sophomore pitcher dazzled fans with yet another brilliant performance Friday, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 17 to lead the Eagles to a 7-1 Mission Valley League victory over El Monte. Acosta (6-4, 2.00 ERA) became the first pitcher in school history to pitch a no-hitter, posting a new single-game strikeout record and single-season record for most strikeouts. According to MaxPreps, Acosta is the nation's strikeout leader among sophomores. The 17 strikeouts puts him at 100 this season, surpassing Calvin Chambers' record of 98 set last season. El Monte will host the Eagles on Friday. It was just a few weeks ago when Acosta, who also leads the team in batting with a .467 average, pitched seven scoreless innings in relief, struck out 14, and went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs to help Gabrielino storm back from a 15-1 deficit to beat St. Anthony 21-17 in 11 innings.

Interesting thoughts here. I appreciate you taking the time to share them with us all. It's people like you that make my day :)

It seems like Ameriie is switching it up with her new singlenamed Outside Your Body! Amerie's heading back to her Korean roots in this single, fusing R&B with Korean pop! This intergalactic song sounds amazing on my phone and I can't wait for the music video to drop!

I had an idea about your blog, how can I contact you?

I believe your weblog is nice! I found it on Google this morning. I believe I will come back another day, thank you.

Palms down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's an enormous choice of all sorts of apps vs a moderately unhappy choice of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, particularly within the realm of games, however I'm not sure I might wish to bet on the longer term if this facet is essential to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Ice hockey is an interesting exercise, I like it.

Thank God we have a common interest, thank you for sharing, you're a good author. Hope to see more of your articles. Juno sincere.

Realista,
When in form, he's as tough as any of your guys (Apache crew). The problem is that his defense lets him down @ times and if he's not sharp (hammer for strikes and cheese with location) a lot of barrels find the ball. When it all lines up, he would shove bats up anyone's tail-pipe.

Im not hating on the kid. Im just saying that Gabrielino plays no body. I would just like to see how he does against some real competition. Even the RHL, i would like to see him against Temple City.

21 -- He's smart for not wagering it on the gridiron this year -- otherwise what Realist said will be moreso fact.

Stop hating on the kid, and give him his due props. If you knew this kid you would appreciate his tremendous work ethic and dedication to the game. Its a shame he stopped playing football because he was just as good on the field as a safety as his is on the diamond as a pitcher.

I would love to see this kid play some competition. I guarantee he would get shelled against good hitting.
