Softball: Mayfield celebrates after 10 inning marathon

Mayfield freshman Mireya Hernandez hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th to help the Cubs to a 1-0 win over Pasadena Poly to clinch the Prep League title outright Wednesday afternoon at Brookside Park.     This was a great game extremely well played by both teams. Mireya Hernandez led the Cubs with 3 hits and the game winning “single” was a bomb over the right fielder that would have probably gone for a bases clearing triple or possibly a home run, but we don’t have fences at the Brookside field.

    The game was dedicated to Mayfield’s Seniors, Anneliese Luck, Julie Monohan and Julia Klein who have led the Cubs to first place in the Prep League 3 out of their 4 years at Mayfield.

    Congratulations on your successes ladies and we wish you well on your journey to college and beyond.
