WHITTIER CHRISTIAN 1, SAN MARINO 0 — Whittier Christian pitcher Courtney McGee continued her playoff dominance on Thursday. McGee threw her second postseason no-hitter in three games, lifting the host Heralds to a 1-0 victory over San Marino in the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 quarterfinals. McGee faced 22 San Marino batters, one above the minimum. Catherine Barth, who reached on an error in the second inning, was the Titans’ lone base runner. San Marino pitcher Michelle Floyd also turned in an impressive complete game effort, scattering five hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
LA CAADA 5, SAVANNA 0 — Megan Siepler hit a two-run home run and a two-run double to lead the Spartans to a convincing 5-0 win over Savanna of Anaheim in the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 playoffs Thursday afternoon. La Caada (25-4) advances to Tuesday’s semifinals against perennial power South Hills, a 10-3 winner over Cerritos Valley Christian. It was another dominating pitching performance by the Lauren O’Leary and Lauren Cox. O’Leary, a junior, pitched four strong innings, allowed just two hits with no walks. She struck out the side in the third and finished with five strikeouts. Cox, a sophomore, pitched the last three innings and didn’t yield a hit or walk. She struck out four and faced only the minimum batters.
DIVISION 6
SAN GABRIEL MISSION 2, NORDHOFF 1 — Marissa Sanchez hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to over come a 1-0 deficit and San Gabriel Mission won 2-1 over visiting Nordhoff in their Division 6 quarterfinal softball game Thursday afternoon. Nicole Holguin pitched a complete game and is now 11-1. They play La Salle in the semifinals. The two teams played scrimmage which was closely contested, but eventually won by the Lancers.
LA SALLE 1, CARPINTERIA 0 — Allie Forillo struck out the first 14 of 15 batters she faced. The only ball hit in the first five innings was a comebacker to the pitcher to lead the Lancers to the win. The No. 2 seeded team in the tournament advances to Tuesday’s semifinals against San Gabriel Mission.
