Baseball: Monrovia, Temple City win, sets up showdown

| | Comments (9) |

Justin De La Nuez hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and Adrian Velasco went 2 for 3 with a single and a double plus a walk to lift Monrovia to a dominant 12-3 win over La CaƱada on Wednesday afternoon. On the other side of town, Temple City seniors Justin Smith and Branden Pultz each hit early-inning home runs to power the Rams to a 7-1 victory over visiting San Marino. Both wins sets up a showdown Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Temple City High in a matchup that may determine the Rio Hondo League champion. The season series is tied at 1-1. "We just knew we had to win this game to give us a chance tomorrow," Temple City coach Barry Bacon said of the Rams' defeat of the Titans, "Monrovia's next, let's go win a championship."

Good game for the Rio Honda League! This league should probably have stayed D5 or been dropped to D6. Level of play in D4 playoffs is much higher than these teams can match up with.
Nevertheless, congrats to M-Town!

Cats win 1-0 with both principals (Copping and Nebraska err Murphree) looking sharp until the mitt thrower... I mean Nebraska... no Murphree, gave way to Cal for the save. Great ball game from what I saw until the transgression menssioned previously. Hopeful coaches will take appropriate steps to straighten the big-boy out and teach him to respect the game a little more than what I saw.

Very sad to post that Monrovia just won 1-0. Obviously, TC played a close game. So bummed for the Rams. Continue playing great baseball and good luck in CIF!

Win or tie the Cats win as long as they don't lose to someone else.

With Temple City winning today they are actually 10-2 everything else still holds true.

I don't want to step on Monrovia's or Temple City's parade here but since Miguel doesn't post the news, I just want to get it out that La Salle officially made playoffs in the Del Rey League. Finally!

The season series is tied at 1-1 and the game's winner will be alone atop the league standings.

Actually Monrovia is 10-1 and TC 9-2 so even if the Cats lose to TC they will be Co-Champions as long as neither Team loses another game.

TC will win the head-to-head tie breaker so they will get the #1 Seed for CIF..
