Football: Getting to know … South Pas RB Patrick Martin

Background: Patrick Martin is a senior running back for the Tigers football team. He recently led South Pasadena to an impressive 22-9 win over San Gabriel in the season opener last week. More impressive was Patrick’s performance. The captain who also doubles as a linebacker rushed for 137 yards and one touchdown, but that’s not what’s garnering Martin headlines. It’s the fact Martin went berzerk in the fourh quarter when he rushed for 103 yards. He had only 34 yards rushing heading into the final quarter. Yeah, pretty amazing indeed. Martin took some time out of Monday’s practice to let us ask him a few questions about, who else, Patrick Martin.

    Very tough loss last Friday for the Rams, big mistakes and no real offensive threat made it a long night. The young QB will grow to be a good one. The two RB’s are good, I hope coach Mac finds the right one-two punch with them. I’m not hitting the panic button yet. All you have to do is look at the 07 and 08 seasons to know that a slow start can end in a strong finish.

    Apparently, San Gabriel didnt learn their lesson last year against San Marino. When are these coaches going to open their eyes and realize T.O.P. shrinks big play, pass-happy offenses!? My head HURTS thinking of the 09 Ramswhat a disastersorry GA, I cant let it go.

    Martin alone can not get SP into the second spot in RHL, but he sure gives SP a viable running game to compliment Bednarski’s passing ability. that should keep defenses guessing, unlike last year, no run game, and defenses just tee’d off on the pass game. now if we can get some receivers to step up and make some plays….

    this is a great article in my lifetime i was worried i would never get to know the ins and outs of patrick martin. now that i know his most desirable talent is to draw, i will sleep easier tonight. as for the tigers, looking really good. bednarski is back off of a 5 td 35 int season and is looking to improve on those numbers running the ever elusive wing t offense. watch out for the counter! no wait its a power!!!! play action? interception…
