Ethics or simple honesty is the building blocks upon which our whole society is based, and business is a part of our society, and it's integral to the practice of being able to conduct business, that you have a set of honest standards. And it's much easier to do business with someone when you look them in the eye and say, "This is what we're going to do," and you understand what you each mean, and you can go away and get it done.

Grim Reaper- You speak the truth!!!! Blair made it to the playoffs back in 2004-05 season....and if they play solid defense like they showcased I dont see why they cant knock of T.C. or L.C. As far as the RHL goes, just give the trophy to Morovia, muy Bueno, hasta luego baby.

Not a Cat fan, but if they decide to add conditioning as part of the workout this year, there is no way to stop them. This one is over, the eggs are getting cold and the jello is jiggling, and we haven't played a single game.

LC and SM have no quarterbacks or skill players this year, and TC has similar problems and inconsistent coaching. This might be the year the poor league cousins Blair may actually get a whiff of the playoffs, stranger things have happened.

TC scrimagged an El Monte team that featured some large bodies, a small quick scatback, and a very nice mix of run / pass which the ElMo staff put together.
Bubble screens a la Keith Jones, a Paraclete like counter where the back tucks very tight behind the pulllng guard and follows him over the line of scrimmage, making it tough to address the runner head on, and also tough to see the runner at all.

TC could not bolster a pass rush which hurt. The up side was the secondary fought like hell not to give up anything cheap, and tackled well. El Mo hits some posts and deep corners, but the Rams stuck their head in there and never laid back and got soft. Good sign.
NO PASS RUSH AGAINST ARROYO - WE DIE.
First time I have seen the soph QB throw - good velocity and sweet release. I wish TC would forget that knees forward, back pedal QB drop back - it is too slow and does not give the QB depth quickly enough. Arm pump and dig 5 or 7 steps - much better.

Josh S showed he can fly and evade. Dea is a creative, hard runner and Mota looked good as well. Like the Bulldogs, our O-line moved no one and that must change.
I think it is just the inexperience showing - with some hard work and a gut check they will be OK.

El Monte is going to be strong this year. Their squad is much better than the last two seasons.

With limited time, McFarland and staff have done a stand-up job in my opinion. The JV squad has got some players as well. A large crowd was on hand and many new faces, hopefully a Goldenarm heir - will be found among them. Nice work coaches.
Go Rams!

Goldenarm said:

Man - people are in a hurry to bury the PHS Bulldogs.
It is game one - one game - who looked 100% awesome and flawless in week 0?

Huck's point about the O-line not moving anybody is key and a great observation. Cox will not be successful if forced to throw 30 times a game.

New QB, new HC alot new going on. I don't think Horton has told anyone that the Dogs are going to dominate the world. The goal is to get better, learn and be prepared for next Friday's opponent. If Cox is in a offensive scheme with other weapons, he will do well. If PHS expects him to outrun, outgun and pinpoint pass their way to glory, it ain't gonna happen, not without at least a run threat of some kind. Cox is not the protoype step up and deliver type pocket passer, that is not his game. Wth some support - he could work his way into a very, very good Pac league QB though.
I would be focusing on the D side of the ball...keep executing and the O will come.
Don't hang head PHS!!

What happen out there?

Ok, first of all I wasn’t ripping Horton!!!!! When I rip into you’re a$$ you know it was ripped! There is no need to rip Horttie….. This is for you uneducated football folks out there and I’m not making excuses! When you have 7 sophomores, around 23 juniors and 5 out of that total has varsity experience, your going to have some growing pains. It will take about 2 to 3 games and all will be well!!! I’m a “DOG” I don’t do the “switchie ruie”!!!!! The Offence stunk up the place! The O-Line was not firing off the ball, QB (Brandon Cox playing in his first varsity game at QB) acted & looked like a rookie and with no sure answer at “Wide out” makes it difficult for a young offence to do anything. The Pasadena High Bulldogs will be okay, just know that!

I went to the Muir game first and Karl Holmes is the real deal! However, Muir fans should not get ahead of them selves!!!! The Stangs have problems and remember they played “San Gabriel” which was entirely to slow!!!!

With all that said, it’s only the first game of a fresh new and long season!!!! I believe!!!! Like always!

What happened out there? said:

PHS coach Randy Horton- "It wasn't the debut first-year Pasadena High School football coach Randy Horton envisioned, but at the end of this ugly loss, he still managed to break a smile.

It was to keep from crying."

That's very funny. He must've remembered that there's no crying in football. A little doggie told me that Huckster was rippin Horton in the stands. That is very funny too.

Was at the Alhambra Roosevelt, and man it was better than dinner and a movie. #12 QB awesome and mature decision maker, if it wasn't for some of the missed cathes and a tightening on the special teams it would have been a different story. Kudos to SG for hanging close with Muir for three quarters. nice performance by the soph QB for three quarters. SP and SG, lets get it on next week.

The Stang Fan said:

That score belies last night's game. No way around it, that was an ugly game for the Stangs.

Terrible first half. 18 penalties. Special teams mishaps. Missed assignments. A lot of yards given up early. It was tough to watch early on. Obviously, the boys woke up in the 2nd half and played like most thought they would, but they've got some things to polish up for next week. Namely penalties and special teams.

The defense had the old "bend but don't break" going on in the first half, surrendering only 3 points on 3 good drives by the Mats. In the 2nd half the coaches made an adjustment and moved to a 3-4, switching Vaughn from DE to NG. The move allowed the LB's and DB's to clog up more space and made it much more difficult for SG's young QB, who threw 3 picks in the second half. THere was even a HELL of a goal line stand late in the 4th, when SG could not score from Muir's 1 yard line.

The offense stunk it up early and broke it open in the 2nd half. #22 Owens looked REALLY good, but you could tell the line sorely missed their best two guys. Can't WAIT to get them back...SOON! After all the hype surrounding the other guys, #22 and #7 both had great games.

Special teams? Don't ask. Bad snap on a punt for a safety. Multiple PAT misses. Missed tackles on one of the kickoffs that almost went all the way. Muir has GOT to improve this going forward.

Way to get a victory under the belt, and looking forward to next week. All in all, we've got to remember it was just the first game.

LET'S GO STANGS!!!!!

ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY. There will be growing pains, but we can ONLY get better... By League, we'll know where we're at! @Huckster- Just wait til they get their rhythm and you may see fireworks!

Last night i saw the Alhambra Moors play for the first time with the T wing since the mid 1990's this offense looked very well organized and well executed i understand the first was not the best, but in the second half the T wing looked very well executed. I'll take this loss it is only one game. Our defense look superb, but the mental mistake cost us the game and our kicking game cost us the game. Next week we should clean out the weakness and move forward. I see alot of potential....QB # 12 has an arm and i look foward seeing him all 3 years...this Qb is amazing....
