BREAKING NEWS: Maranatha's Josh Jones has "possible tear in ACL, which could require surgery."

| | Comments (79) |

In Thursday's paper you'll read that Maranatha senior Josh Jones' status remains uncertain for Friday's Mid-Valley Division quarterfinal game at San Dimas, but the latest update sent moments ago in an e-mail from Minutemen coach Joel Murphy doesn't look good.

"Looks like there is a possible tear in JJ's ACL which could require surgery," he wrote. "It's a huge loss for us but we have to focus on his hearling and preparing for Friday's game."

Jones (806 yards, 12 touchdowns) underwent an MRI on Monday for a knee injury suffered in last week's win over La Puente.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Jones' status was uncertain. The senior appears to be walking with no pain or with the help of crutches. He can jog and bend the knee because there's no swelling and good movement.

"The doctors are kind of baffled because the knee is soft, but they can't get a clear read of it," said Murphy early Wednesday. "And because JJ still wants to play after this (San Diego State or Northern Arizona) we're taking the necessary precaution. If this was his last hoorah he'd play, but right now we don't know."

If Jones is gone for the season, that's a huge huge loss for Maranatha. But JJ's hopes is to continue playing at the next level, and, as tough as it is, it's in his best interest to recover from injury if in fact he's torn an ACL and requires season-ending surgery.

Is this a blog on the tubes?

whats this non sense about Michelle Obama being pregnant? any truth to that?

How is it that just anybody can create a weblog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said something incredibly impressive --more like youve painted a pretty picture around an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here. But do you definitely think that you can get away with adding some fairly pictures and not seriously say anything?

Dreamin. I love blogging. You all express your feelings the right way, because they are your feeling, focus on your blog it is great.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

It's an interesting view for sure and I appreciate it so this is a little something for all...

Don’t tell any big lies today. Small ones can be just as effective.

I’d have to pass on with you one this subject. Which is not something I typically do! I really like reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to comment!

I must say, as substantially as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a wonderful grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from much more than one angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just going for a gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your own thought process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you for an additional good post. Exactly where else could anybody get that kind of information in this kind of a ideal way of writing? I've a presentation next week, and I am around the look for this kind of information.

Merry Christmas! Every one!

I am impressed, I have to say. Very rarely do I discover a blog that's both educational and entertaining, and let me tell you, you've hit the nail on the head. Your article is important; the matter is something that not enough people are talking intelligently about. I am really happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to it.

The real issue and recipe for winning this game is preparation, and just about nobody prepares for an opponent like Murphy and his staff do.

It would be a tremendous victory - but the odds are stacked against the Minutemen just about wherever you look. The win will come only at the defensive effort of the year. Good luck Maranatha!

Chances are if the tear was last week, absent shooting his knee up with pain killers, he would not be effective.

If he plays and is effective, and the tear was truly suffered last week, you need to think he may have gotten a shot or two. Old school style.

The real question is, what would be the downside. The announcement is that he will need surgery no matter the situation, so what would be the downside. They would need to replace the tendon, partially torn or fully torn and blown out.

So if he plays and tears it completely, will there be more other collateral damage to the knee? If so-don't play! If not, then go ahead and play, you will need surgery anyway, if football is a future pursuit.

Hey Anon, Murphy said WE are taking the precautions needed. Murphy would love to have him there but will not let him, even if JJ said "please" - Murphy would not do it.

There are great receivers in the stall and they will be used. Good luck MHS!

i love jj and all, but being "close" to the program i can tell you that there are 3 other more than serviceable receivers who have not gotten much time during the year who can step into a starting role with jebbia, major, and straker picking up what was lost with jones. obviously the height, length, and leaping advantages he gave are going to be missed on the outside, but as you go down the depth chart you just see speed, quickness, speed, and more quickness.
