UPDATE: As if losing in devastating fashion last week against Arcadia wasn't enough, Monrovia fans have to deal with another loss heading into Friday's game against Mid-Valley Divisional rival San Dimas.
Five-star recruit Ellis McCarthy, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound defensive tackle ranked fourth nationally at his position, will miss the game because of a right knee injury suffered late in the fourth quarter last week in the Wildcats' 30-22 loss to Arcadia.
It's a double whammy for the Wildcats, who also lost Justin Jones, a junior starting linebacker who separated his right shoulder against Arcadia.
Monrovia coach Ryan Maddox said McCarthy will sit out after taking a helmet to the knee. Maddox also said McCarthy "wasn't walking tremendously well" the following day.
When reached by phone Tuesday while undergoing therapy, McCarthy said the knee is starting to feel better.
"I know I didn't break anything," he said. "The X-rays said it was fine. I just have a sleeve on it."
McCarthy said he's going to try to practice today after he sees how he feels. His father, Ed McCarthy, confirmed his son will not undergo an MRI as initially planned.
McCarthy, asked if he would play should the knee heal in time for Friday's game, wasn't so sure.
"I don't think I'm playing," he said, "but I'm going to try to work it out and get better for next week."

Monrovia is a "TEAM". They have more than enough players to win this game. "IF" Ellis does not play, Mtown will move some guys around, and move forward. The Cats have potent offense in progress. I am sure they are going to heavily focus on getting their guys the ball. Special teams will be huge for both teams. San Dimas will need Corona to make all the extra pts and FGs. Monrovia is going to have to clean up their punting game, and hope for Ramirez to break some returns. Monrovia will have theirs hands full with
Kennedy,Brown,Payton,Corona,and company. If the cats keep San Dimas in 3rd in 7...they will force San Dimas into a throwing match San Dimas is not a prolific passing team, if they are behind early they will have to pass, and that favors Monrovia. They can hit the back out backfield passes...but not much down field. Mtown wants this game to be shoot out. San Dimas offense is built to hold the ball, If Monrovia gets behind...Time will be a factor. They will be also force in passing instead of more balanced approach, and right now their passing game is not clicking. Over this will be a game of field position, special teams, and Turnovers and penalties. The team that plays four good quarters of football will win.

I mean really. All you haters would really wish a "career ending" injury on a 17 year old kid. What, are you jealous? Is your kid a bench warmer? This is someone's kid you're talking about here. Yes he is a beast on the field as he should be..but off the field he is a down to earth humble kid. He has nothing else to prove to any of you haters. Just be happy for a kid coming out of sgv with the potential to go somewhere.

wow hearing this talk about ppl saying they would finish his other knee off is sicking. the dude is a great kid a great player and most importantly he isnt a kid who finds himself in trouble. why would you ever wish bad on a KID. the facts are he is a huge part of the team and it might effect mtowns hopes of winning the game but they do still have deshawn who looked good when he got the ball. go mtown now!

I hope he plays. We have the surgeon general out there to finish off the knee. The boys at SD have always been able to take care of Ellis' knees and this year will be career ending.

Stop kissing Monrovia's ass. We would have beat Monrovia with McCarthy, and now will have an easier time without him. Monrovia is not the beast they were made out to be preseason. I do not wish injury to any high school kid, friend or foe, but when we play Monrovia Friday the gloves come off and we are there to kick butt, not kiss it.

McCarthy will be missed by Monrovia, however they have alot of talent on that team and I know they will fill right in. Mtown is a great team and will give San Dimas a tough game with or without him. Win or lose I hope all the boys have a safe and injury free game.

I smell dooms week for Monrovia. But luckily its the beginning of the year and Monrovia will be healthy by playoffs and of course make another run.
