Well you can call me bias but I just dont see what some of the Covina folks see. I invision the game as a really close game. However my gutt tells me the winner wins in a BLOWOUT. I just feel that the level of competition that the Covina team has played just doesnt match up. West Covina in week ZERO nice game but not the same team they are today. San Dimas is a quality win but all the others eckkkkkk putrid at best (GLADSTONE, BALDWIN PARK, WILSON, NORTHVIEW,WALNUT,come on man My Pasadena Trojans Jr Midget Team would give the formentioned teams a game)

Unlike MHS Covina wasnt getting everyones A GAME.
Monrovia as the defending champion was getting everyones A GAME. Beat MHS “we beat the defending champion with big ol bad Ellis McCarthy”….. That Monrovia Schedhule was a bit a tougher in fact a lot tougher. Glendora, played WC tough 20-19 in defeat, San Dimas playoff team, currently 10-2 was the only ugly game for MHS, Arcadia playoff team 30-22 had six turnovers leading 22-20 with 2:32 and had the game won 4th and 16 and give up a touchdown, Beat Paramount playoff team, 40-36 tough team, Beat Pomona 24-7 playoff team, Beat San Marino 50-0,playoff team, Beat Whittier Christian, Olympic league Champ and Covina killa last year 61-7 with 5:07 left in the 3rd quarter if it was a fight Don King would have begged to stop it.

Someone please tell me why Covina beats MHS Ill listen and could be convinced but please dont talk to me about San Dimas. Even the Superbowl champs sometimes have 2-3 loses. But good God from everywhere when the playoffs start its a entirely diffirent level of play.

  • coltfan97

    Mr. Bryant,

First of all Monrovia is very talented team!!!!!! But please do not say Covina schedule is weak because other than Monrovia the RHL is weak and you know this!!!!!! With teams like Blair and Temple City (1-19)!!!!! Your J.V. teams could have beat those teams!!!!! Against Pomona remember Covina was w/o their qb!!!!! Covina only passed the ball 3 times that games, and Covina still won!!!! By the way Covina crushed S.D. 39-21!!!!! The Covina-Monrovia game will be a close and who ever makes the least mistakes will win the game!!!!!

  • coltfan97

    Mr Bryant,

Another thing Covina defense is outstanding and so is Monrovia’s!!!! Covina stops the run very well!!!Look at the stats Look at Yabrough from Pomona he had 170 against Monrovia, and against Covina he had only 70 yards!!!!! It’s going to be extremely difficult for Monrovia to run against Covina!!!!!

  • coltfan97

Need a better argument on why Covina beats MHS. The one you just gave just isnt cutting it in fact I cant tell in you coming at me on barefoot or on horseback. Yes MHS played 3 week teams Blair, TC and La Canada. and the Playoff teams Covina beat Alhambra and So El Monte would have be 4th and 5th if they played in the RHL.

Ok Ill give it to you Covina schedule wasnt week IT WAS VERY WEEK.. I will give Covina credit though, as Covina did do what your supposed to do to an inferior team. BEAT them and beat them well and that is why I invison a close game. However I still going with me gutt. Good luck CHS

  • paul revere

Like I have said pressure…pressure…pressure…the cats have been through hell this season…This team has had to scrap to put it together. I think when you are used to fighting…you become a fighter…Monrovia is a fighting team…They are going to come out swinging…and they know how to take a punch

  • Weak Playoff Schedule

You guys always talk about strength of schedule being important when it comes to momentum in the playoffs, but you are overlooking the fact that Covina played SEM and Alhambra where Monrovia played Pomona and Whittier Christian. Who do you think has had the tougher route? The two teams Covina played could be beaten by all playoff teams with the exception of Sierra Vista while the two teams Monrovia played could be top 5 in the division. I am not a Monrovia fan, but I think that Monrovia wins by 2 – 3 TD’s

  • coltfan97

WOW your blaming Covina weak playoff schedule on them!!!!! I swear Covina doesn’t make the brackets CIF does!!!! So your faulting Covina!!!! I swear the number one seed is suppose to get the easiest draw!!!! Am I right???? I do admit Covina playing Alhambra and SEM was a cake walk, but you can’t fault Covina for that!!!! VERY WEAK???? Covina played tough teams this year as well as Monrovia!!!!

By the way Covina season could have ended when Livingston separated his shoulder in week 3, but Covina fought through his and other injuries that Covina had to endure!!!!! I know Monrovia battled through injuries as well!!!!

I did change your mind about one thing Mr. Bryant it won’t be a blowout!!!!

  • Colt74

The truth will set you free…

You guys sure were not on these blogs crying like you are now, about who Monrovia played in their first two games of the playoffs last year. Why is that?

Remember Gladstone in the first round? 5-5, with a -10.6 rating?

And Schurr 7-4, with those convincing wins over 6-6 El Torro by 1. Beat 3-8 California by 5. Beat 4-6 Montebello by 1. Then beat 5-5 Baldwin Park in the first round.

Yeah those teams were real powerhouses weren’t they?

Again, no crying about THAT cupcake schedule.

    I wonder why?

Oh, that’s right….Monrovia only cries about other teams schedules.

  • Mtownclown

Covina will be stupid if they try too play ellis one on 1 your guy is gonna get Beat and livingston is gonna get hurt….better put 2 on #18 not worth hurting your qb and he will do just that Ask glendora OUCHHHHH!

  • Observantcat

Hey Colt74, you forget the most important one. Monrovia Over a Whittier Christian in the CIF final game 38-8 who beat a Covina 28-17 in the CIF Quarter final.

  • Colt74

    Observantcat,

Again, typical Monrovia fan comeback. You guys cry because you say Covina got to play 2 cupcake teams in THESE playoffs and I show you where you got the same two first cupcake games LAST YEAR in the playoffs.
So what is the next logical thing for a Monrovia fan to do? Ignore those facts and go on to bring up Whittier Christian, which has NOTHING to do with Monrovias whining claims.

But I know, Monrovia fans rely on misdirection. They run from facts pertaining to THEIR arguments that discredit their views.
Like you guys run from your losses to Arcadia, South Hills, and San Dimas. You guys want to discuss games and results as long as those games are not included. That is pretty pathetic actually. You guys try to twist facts and only use those that serve your purpose.

You guys have ZERO credibility. You only want to pick and choose what you want to accept and believe. You want to ignore any facts that don’t back up your claims.

You get the truth thrown in your face but you refuse to accept the truth. The truth is always the truth whether you choose to accept it or not.

And again, that truth is that you guys in your arguments have ZERO credibility left.

  • Kennedy Bryant

    Coltfan97

You still have not listed or stated and arguement to explain or define why it is that you think Covina will beat Monrovia. I think MHS has too many weapons and playmakers for Cover.

Covina pick your poison baby, Covina has not faced a team all year that is a loaded like MHS. It took us a little while to figure out how to Drive the BENTLEY but ITS rolling right now. Like I said last year Bueno was a Ferrari. But Coach Maddox had the Bentley sitting in the garage. FAVOR AINT FAIR..

    Monrovia Weapons
    1)Craft
    2)Bryant
    3)Bias
    4)Rameriz
    5)Frazier
    6)Williams
    7)Walsh
    8)Heyworth
9)Opps Damn near forgot ELLIS MCCARTHY

    Covina Weapons:

    1)Ainsworth
    2)Venegas
    3)Livingston
    4)Padilla
    5)Mason

  • coltfan97

    Your forgetting:

    Romano
    Hynes
    Murillo
    De La Cruz

  • coltfan97

I did forget Simon and Carillo both play defense but can play offense as well!!!!! You guys under estimating Covina and thats fine with me!!!! West Covina said the same thing and we took them to overtime!!!!!

  • Observantcat

Colt74, I think you may be missing your own point. When you bring up soft post season games, we at Monrovia new that we had a pretty soft post season schedule last season although Schurr gave us their best shot and came up a bit short, you could have made that argument last season had you gotten past Whittier Christian but that didn’t happen. This season Monrovia fans are saying that the ride was a bit tougher for us than Covina which may or may not be significant in this Fridays game. So the real point I guess that is trying to be made is what team has been more challenged in making their run to the Semi’s. I personally dont believe that it really matters because both teams will play their hearts out to bring it home for their fans and their teammates, so may the best team WIN!

  • New York

The truth, Colt74, is that San Dimas was given an easy road to the finals while the Valle Vista champ, Covina, got the tougher road. San Dimas had an easier road to the finals the year they won it as well (home games and opponents) but they still won it. Monrovia’s first round last year was a joke, as are most first rounds for the top seed. But then we beat the Almont champ in the quarters. With Cantu at QB, Schurr was always a threat. Plus Schurr is a legite program, having won CIF in recent years.

I think Covina and Monrovia matchup very well every year, not just this year. We seem to both have a lot of skill players and be able to take on schools with bigger enrollments. We are also programs who have had good teams in the past who have been ousted by opponents who should not have been in our divisions to begin with. Tesoro and Oak Park for Covina. Crespi and several Western Division schools for Monrovia.

Now we, as fans, are fortunate because we get to watch our schools thrive within a division that is pretty well balanced, with no sandbagging upper division schools dropped into the mix to restore themselves.

I don’t enjoy reading what some Monrovia-affiliated bloggers have posted. I am okay with projecting confidence, but I certainly don’t want to provide locker room material. We have had overly brash blogging in the past and it hurt us (San Dimas two years ago and Arcadia this year).

  • coltfan97

By the way I am not saying Monrovia doesn’t have talent!!!! I WOULD BE A FOOL IF I SAID SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!! What I am saying Covina is talented as well!!!!! What do you expect Covina just to roll over and play dead and give Monrovia the crown???? I don’t think so, Covina will fight to the end!!!! Win or lose, this proud alum will always cheer for the COLT NATION!!!!!

  • paul revere

Ok Colt So where would you place South Hills , Glendora, Paramount(League champ, and Lost to tough St Francis team) and Arcadia, if they were in the Field of 16? They probably are playing in the Semis along with San Dimas(which monrovia played and Lost). Covina play west Co which obvisously be in the finals or win the final in the Midvalley(Covina played them tough so I can’t say they are automatic to win). San dimas is in the semis, but after that, covina has not been in a dog Fight since the West Covina Game. Since South Pas beat Alhambra(and help them to 6 pts), and San Marino took San Dimas to the wire, The RHL was not as weak as Advertised. There is no hiding from the the fact that Monrovia has Dismantled two good teams, and Covina has played two well well cupcakes…That does not mean covina is not good or they are not ready…only a fool would believe they are coming out flat. Nevertheless, none of that stuff matters. Covina is good, Monrovia is good. Covina is hungry, Monrovia is experienced. I think the pressure is on Covina to prove they belong at the top. Monrovia has been good under pressure in the the semis last 2 years…I expect the same steadfastness Friday…Forcast Clear, 38 degress is the low, and a lot of Thunder Cats.

  • paul revere

Kennedy,,, get your study on hudl.com…Wink Wink…you what to do and what it is.

  • coltfan97

Ok according to Revere we haven’t been in a dogfight since West Covina!!!!!! Guess he is wrong again as usual Pomona was a dogfight BECAUSE COVINA WAS WITHOUT LIVINGSTON!!!!! I guess it wasn’t a dogfight!!!! WOW South Pasadena beat a weak Alhambra team 6-5!!!!!!! Your telling me the RHL (excluding Monrovia) is strong your kidding right!!!!!

  • coltfan97

I do agree with you on this point both are good!!!!

  • Mtownclown

san marino a RHL team put up a good fight against your VVL rival SD Rio hondo isnt as weak as everyone thought! friday Monrovia is on a Mission too prove just that!

  • Paul Revere aka micheal vick on dog fighting

hey…Like I said, that’s how weak alhambra was…that was your Quarter Final opponent. Ok…two dog fights…in week one and four…I stand Corrected…it’s week twelve. However the valley vista was a stronger league than RHL, no doubt. This has been a dog fight season for the cats. Mainly an internal one… QB Battles, The 3 losses in a row, injuries, bad playoff draw; this Wildcat team has had to mature this season. I am proud of this particular team. Nothing was in the bag for them, they are capable of losing, they are going to have to climb the mountain top to the promise land… That’s what makes it so exciting.

  • coltfan97

Revere I respect your opinion!!!!! We both are passionate about our teams, and to me thats a fan!!!! I can respect that!!!! By the way there is only three good football teams in the VVL sorry to rest of the VVL, but its true!!!!

  • Kennedy Bryant

    Et Al:

If Monrovia loses hey I will be the first to congratulate Covina. Ill admit that my prediction was off and wish the Colts well in the finals.

My point here is that so many miss guided and uninformed bloggers say something that has no basis in fact, but there lies the beauty of the blog you dont have to know anything to say anything… YOU CAN JUST SAY IT, even if it’s laughable.

Having played the game and watching my kid and my friends kids play this game we all love it is fun and more fun to talk @#$% about it here on the bloggs. We used to do that at The Fred Darden Barbershop on Huntington drive in Monrovia. However we know have a new venue to articulate those ONE LINERS and talk trash, you see thats the diffirence between Monrovians and you. It’s part of our swagger, our identity and we usually do it with class and respect. It’s what has help motivate the great athletes that have come thru Monrovia. Proving everyone wrong when they was would say you suck or your terrible or that youll never go anywhere.

Those of us that love Monrovia and grew up in Monrovia will defend to the death one of ours. You cannnot go any where in the SGV and see the same kind of fan support you’ll see at MHS game on a FRIDAY NIGHT. That is the what is speacial about MTOWN.

Here is my last point, even in Covina wins we will never give you credit because it will be an Ainsworth that will put you over the top. And long before he stepped foot on the football field in Covina his Daddy was learning his craft on the streets on MONROVIA and talking trash right there with us.

  • coltfan97

His daddy went to Duarte not Monrovia!!!!! His uncle went to Monrovia!!!!!! Mr. Bryant your posting doesn’t make sense!!!!!! At the beginning of your statement you will congratulate Covina, but then at the end of your statement you will never give Covina credit!!!!!!! Which is it going to be??????? By the way I saw Greg play at Mt Sac and Oregon St. Great Player!!!!!

  • Fred Robledo

You can say all you want, this is a toss up, two talented, physical teams meeting while both are healthy and playing they’re best football.

  • coltfan97

I forgot to mention Mr. Bryant I would like to say I hope for a great game, and I wish the best to Monrovia and Covina!!!!

  • Mtownclown

these guys from Covina are good sports unlike pomona and WC who talked crap before and after we played them…Much respect covina fans!!

  • Colt74

    Observantcat,
“…you could have made that argument last season had you gotten past Whittier Christian but that didn’t happen.”

No, we could not or would not. Covina makes no excuses for any play or any game or any situation. Feel free to search the archives.

“This season Monrovia fans are saying that the ride was a bit tougher for us than Covina which may or may not be significant in this Fridays game.”

Saying things are “a bit tougher” is not even REMOTELY close to what I have been reading. Where in that “a bit tougher” did you leave out “CUPCAKE”…or “Covina was given a bye until the Semis”?
I just find it totally hilarious that people who live in glass houses throw stones at other peoples glass houses then get butt hurt when they are thrown back.

But I’ll be watching you on the show tonight Big Bob!

Bloggers don’t play the game. We just talk up our teams. But when I do it I at least have some fact in what I say. Unless it is for pure 100% humor. But as Mr. Bryant says( paraphrased )…”this is a blog…facts? We don’t need no stinking facts!”

And also Mr. Bryant, That is great that you take pride in Monrovia. You should. But Covina does not need you nor anyone else to give them credit if they win, or would they ever ask for it. Playing in the finals would be I believe, credit enough. The scoreboard on Friday night is all the credit any team needs. Give it, don’t give it..it’s all the same. What do you think gives credit more..a Championship or what Monrovia thinks of the Colts?

I guess that is where Covina and Monrovia differ in some of their fan base. We enjoy football for the game, not the smack talk. In the end the vast majority of Colt fans try and just let the players do the talking on the field.

Isn’t that the only talk that matters?

    But, too each their own.

  • Colt74

    Correction: “to each his own”
I changed it before submitted but it did not take.

  • Kennedy Bryant

Colt.. I take it that you haven’t been to Monrovia, or Duarte, I know his dad played @ Duarte High.. but he learned his craft on the streets of MTOWN and talked trash with his cousins and unlce in monrovia. And you for sure havent ever talk trash with a real trash talkers…. You talking trash would be like krytonite to superman. They just dont go together.

Fred, looking at Covina on film over the last 6 games not buying the Covina Stock AT ALL. Now Fred, you and Aram have your his perspective of MHS based on what you guys saw earlier in the year MHS vs AHS and MHS vs SHHS respectively. I would agree with that perspective too. I saw MHS earlier in the season and was wondering “WHAT IN THE SAM HELL IS GOING ON”. All this talent and MHS getting beat by scrubs like SH and SD, but by no means is MHS the same team in weeks 2 and 4 as they are now. You’ll have to watch to see especially on defense.

Do yourself a favor ASK the Pomona and Whittier Christian Coaches persepective on MHS RIGHT NOW…..

As I said If Covina wins Ill give it up to them. Its very hard to beat the CHAMPION. AH yeah MTOWN still holding the MID VALLEY CHAMPION Title

  • paul revere

Monrovia and Duarte are two separate cities, but they are still one and the same…Most Monrovian and Duarte people have family and ties above and below the tracks which separates the cities. Most kids can go to Monrovia or Duarte legally if they chose too. A lot kids have lived in each city at one time in their life. Its just like going to PHS or Muir. It all depends on which program suites you best. The kids go to same middle Schools, churches, Parks and play on the same JAA team. It’s a real unique situation. The Majority of the time one school is better than the other, but there are times when Both Monrovia and Duarte is good. Man the rivalry is great. So if you say someone is from Monrovia, you can bet they have Duarte ties and vice versa…that brings me to next Point…Most Inland and Pac 5 schools have 3000-4000 kids…That would be like combining Monrovia and Duarte together, or Muir and PHS, or Charter oak and Covina. Those would be some great Inland and Pac 5 schools. The Sgv schools are in cities that are locked into a population and Demegraphic dead end. They can’t grow, where as in the EI and South OC, those populations are growing and have the room to support that…It leaves the SGV in grim situation and very hard to compete with the numbers. Covina and Monrovia are two special schools, despite the numbers have a great talent and can play against Much bigger schools…

I say take Monrovia, Covina, San Dimas, Whittier Christian, Maranatha, and Arroyo and put them Into the Southeast as the “midvalley League”.

  • coltfan97

Mr. Bryant trash talking does nothing for me!!!! I don’t care if you trash talk!!!! The only thing that matters to me is the end result!!!!! The end result will be my trash talking!!!!!! Honestly I don’t care about you not buying Covina stock that’s great, but Mr. Bryant you are under estimating Covina’s talent!!!! If Monrovia is under estimating Covina’s talent like you Mr. Bryant, Monrovia will be shocked on Friday night!!!

  • coltfan97

I am going to say this, just because a team has more talent doesn’t mean their going to win!!!!!

  • Message to Big Bob.

Wait a minute Colt. What Does KB’s opinion, underestimation, or trash talking have to do with the players for monrovia? Colt 74 will tell you that means nothing. Monrovia is not underestimating anything…if anything Covina fans are hoping Monrovia is underestimating Covina…Nope…We are not and neither are the players. Sorry buddy. That’s not happening. We are four pt underdogs, 4th seeded, and Fred and Aram have picked us to lose. Your number one, don’t try to pass the buck now….

Big bob, much love, if you are reading…Don’t get up there tell the whole sgv everything Monrovia is going to do, or what you think Monrovia is going to do. Or Where people are going to play. You slip up last time. Keep it Vanilla please. YOur not helping if you do tell what you know, and Fred and Aram are going to try to pick your brain…Be Smart think about the kids lol. People will be watching… Any Mtowners who see bob in traffic…Let him know this hahahha..

  • Colt74

What I have gotten out of all this is BOTH schools have fans that are proud of their respective schools and are not shy about letting others know it.

You can’t find fault in that.

I hope both teams bring their A games Friday night and leave it all on the field. No excuses, no regrets. If Monrovia gets the win I’ll be one of the first to congratulate them.

Until then I will keep inserting pins into the Monrovia football doll and praying to JoBu….

  • Observantcat

Kennedy Bryant is a Man about the truth, Monrovia has that kind of swagger just like Muir and any other school district with the kind of athelets that who know how to back up what they say. I remember when Bryant was playing for the Cats and although the game of the Year was Amat vs. Monrovia this guy had the same optimism about who he was then as well as who he has become as a Man. I’m certain that he has passed this passion down to his kids and they are now playing with the same emotion and passion their dad is showing on the blogs. Thats called Family LOVE whether it’s for the community or just plain good old fashion genes. The whole Monrovia community is one big happy family and football is a very big passion of all of its fans. That’s what makes these blogs go round. I wont make any final score predictions but I do believe the momentum swing goes over to the Cats even at the Colts house.

  • paul revere

Hey isn’t Jobu the Assistant special teams coach for Covina…Why would we pray to him.

  • Philly B.

Well….Like miguel said its going to be a heavyweight title fight this year in the semi’s. I would of loved it to be for the midvalley division title, but at least the match is here!!!! Let it be known, I respect covina, and have respect them. They are the number 1 seed for a reason. Monrovia did go thru some growing pains and I think that has made them a better team for it. But give credit wehre credit is due, to take a westCo team to the wire is saying alot. But monrovia whooping on Pomona and Whittier Christian the way they did, whittier christian is in the hardest league in the division, make no mistake. Olympic league is legit. Covina is in a tough league but not that tough. The arguement about covina rolling thru their league just like monrovia rolled thru their league and saying that doesnt help them in the playoffs….well…I dont think so. Look at what both teams have done thus far.

Paul, I like that idea of the midvalley league. But I’ll say this, if Monrovia beats covina and wins the title again, I say monrovia moves to the pacific and dances with the likes of burroughs, burbank, muir, phs, and arcadis(note neither mhs or ahs has beat the other back2back)

Fred, Aram, I respect your picks on Covina, you’ve seen covina at their best and have seen monrovia at their worse..or not in true form. either way. You’ll see what monrovia is about come friday night.

Colt74 and 97, you guys rep your team to the fullest and I respect that. Good luck to both teams. Im calling a close one, monrovia wins by 7 pts or less!!!!!

  • COLT 76

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WITH THE BIG GUY FROM MONROVIA IS PUT YOUR BEST GUY STRAIGHT UP AGAINST HIM.THAT WOULD BE NICK HYNES.HE WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM AND TAKE THE RUNNING GAME OUTSIDE.COVINA HAS WAY TOO MANY TRICKS UP THEIR SLEEVE .THEY ARE NOT ONE DIMENSIONAL,THEY CAN MIX IT UP.THATS THE ADVANTAGE OF THE SPREAD.

  • coltfan97

I have nothing against Mr. Bryant!!!!! In fact, I respect him because he is a proud parent and a fan of Monrovia’s! There nothing wrong with that!!!! The confidence and swagger that Mr. Bryant has for Monrovia, I have for Covina!!!!!

  • Observantcat

Philly B. We got Arcadia back2back in 2009-2010 check it out. Really should have won this year as well.

  • Mtownclown

the big guy from Monrovia??? you mean ellis? No team soo far could handle McCarthy 1 on 1 and covina WILL NOT play him 1 on 1 hes too big and too fast for any single O lineman in the mid valley….if Covina Makes that mistake and trys too block him with one man hes gonna be in Covinas back field ALLL NIGHT its gonna come down too smart decisions by the head coaches and play makers on Defense …..

  • COLT 76

mtownclown, covinas backs will be 20yds. downfield before the d-line knows what hit them.If they put the pressure on Billy The Kid will just Pop it over the middle for a quick score. You think your defense has some tricks. We will see .The Covina defense will dominate!!

  • paul revere

Covina’s D will Dominate…Like against Pomona? they put up 14, and they have no offense what so ever. Monrovia Score 14 on their worst night. Their worst. At worst the cats are 21 or better. In all the games teams scored over 22, Ellis Was Injured, or did not play. When Ellis plays its 21 pts tops, thats how it’s been since the playoffs last year. However…This is one game where the covina backs will not be the fastest players on the field, Excluding Pomona because they did not have any defenseive strategy either. Pomona was game plan away from being a really good team. Nevertheless Monrovia offense is A lot better than Pomona’s.

  • Mtownclown

whatever you think is OK … all this BIG BAD COVINA AND BIG BAD Monrovia talk is dumb just wait till friday Let the best team win!!

  • COLT 76

HEY GUYS THIS IS EXCITING .LETS HOPE FOR A GOOD HARD FOUGHT AND SAVE GAME AND THE BEST TEAM WILL WIN.SURE BEATS HAVING TO DRIVE UP TO OAK PARK FOR A SIMI GAME.LOOK FORWARD TO IT !!!
