Sports Illustrated: Ellis McCarthy a rushing monster.

Wish I had seen this when it ran, but here it is, nonetheless. Stephen Boyle over at Sports Illustrated wrote a very good piece on Monrovia’s Ellis McCarthy complemented by a very good video which I’ve embetted below. We’ve known for some time that McCarthy would like to stay close to home when it comes to playing college football, and he reveals as much in the piece when he’s quoted saying “I haven’t had a game that my parents haven’t seen me play since ever, really”. You have to wonder if San Gabriel can even block a player of McCarthy’s caliber even if you throw three (that’s right, THREE) guys at him. At the end of the day, San Gabriel’s offensive linemen will say they played against a future NFL defensive tackle.

    The other option is to have VERY early game film of EM when he first joined Monrovia. As a 15 and 16 year old he was very blockable…that is until he grew into the dominate, explosive player he is today. One must remember he is still very young and far from reaching his full potential and skill level. No doubt the scouts have taken this into consideration.

    Who’s a 20 year old high school player? Surely not McCarthy. He’s the same age as any other senior on the field, if not younger. This kid doesn’t turn 18 until July. Not his fault that the other fish in the pond are a little under developed. I’m just saying…

    I went to last week game vs Covina and watched a future NFL player. He’s the area best D-linemen since Shaun Cody.You can not believe how quick he is! San Gabriel word to the wise- stay away from him ! The bad part of that is that the rest of his D-line is pretty good ! Good luck to both teams this weekend.

    Sorry He turned 19 this June-2011 and will be 20 years old in 2012. He missed the cut off by one day. My bad!! He will be 20 as a college freshman. Check you records!!

    Ellis McCarthy can’t be 19-years-old. The C.I.F. rule, as I understand it, is that if a high school student turns nineteen-years-old before September, they can’t play high school sports.

    Ellis was born July 13 (not June), 1993, which means he turned 18 last summer, not 19 (for DOC HOLIDAY and anyone else who’s similarly mathematically challenged or otherwise ignorant).
