Crazy Pacific League scenarios as Arcadia can either finish as co-league champion, second or third place. I’ll be at Stengel Field tonight to cover the action. Follow me on twitter @StarNewsPreps for updates.

It’s been a shocking week for the Arcadia High School baseball team, to say the least.

The Apaches, after a 41-game Pacific League winning streak, are suddenly on a three-game losing streak heading into their final game of the regular season.

“We’ve been flat, in shock,” Arcadia coach Nick Lemas said. “It’s like we’ve been punched in the face and can’t get back up.”

Fortunately, the last game of the season for Arcadia (18-8, 10-3) comes down against rival Crescenta Valley (19-7, 11-2) under the lights at 7 p.m. at Stengel Field in Glendale.

“I don’t need to do anything to fire them up against CV,” Lemas said. “They’re going to be ready to go. We believe we can beat them because we’ve done it before.”

That there’s an incentive on the line will only intensify the game, and there are quite a few puzzling scenarios that can send Arcadia into next week’s playoffs as a co-league champion, second-place or third-place team.

Arcadia and Crescenta Valley can be co-league champions with an Apaches win. In that scenario, Arcadia is the league’s No. 1 representative heading into next week’s playoffs because Arcadia swept the series, 2-0.

There could be a three-way tie for first if Arcadia wins coupled with a Burbank (13-8, 10-3) win over Burroughs (11-13, 8-5). In that scenario, Arcadia is the No. 1 representative after winning the coin flip among Burbank and Crescenta Valley.

Arcadia could finish second with a loss copuled with a Burbank loss, giving them identical league records, and Crescenta Valley would be outright champ. Because Arcadia and Burbank split the series, a coin flip is determined which team gets the No. 2 seed in league. Arcadia won that coin flip as well.

A third-place finish for Arcadia also is possible with a loss coupled with a Burbank win.

Erik Trask will take the mound for the Apaches and expect Crescenta Valley to start senior Kyle Murray, who possesses a deft breaking ball. He’s been clocked between 88 and 92 miles per hour and is headed to Cal State Fullerton next season.

Two outstanding pitchers and a lot on the line means fans can expect to see a gem.

There’s been over 1,100 views of Pasadena baseball coach Mike Parisi getting his head shaved in a Star-News video that’s available at this blog.

Parisi promised he would let his team shave his head on the mound if the Bulldogs (12-10, 7-6) upset Arcadia last week. Pasadena closes out the season today at Muir and can finish as high as tied for fourth place with Burroughs, provided that Pasadena wins and Burroughs loses to Burbank. In that scenario. Pasadena and Burroughs would have identical league records at 8-6, and because the teams split the series a playoff game is needed to determine the fourth and final playoff spot.

If Pasadena and Burroughs tie for fourth, the teams would meet Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and Pasadena would host the game as determined by a coin flip. Pasadena is guaranteed a playoff spot with a win Saturday, but a loss means it would hope to receive an at-large berth when the brackets are released Monday.
