Football: Muir freshman Darick Holmes Jr., a running back/all-everything, picks up first offer from UCLA.

UCLA pulled the trigger on a freshman and offered Muir running back Darick Holmes Jr. a scholarship, according to his father. I covered Holmes Jr. this past season (check out his hightlights below) and he was just a beast from every point on the field: running back, wildcat, wide receiver, returning punts, etc. You can bet Holmes Jr. will get more offers on the way, so let the recruiting battle begin … Even if he can’t sign until 2016.

This guy is a perfect example to all those other Pasadena athletes that feel the need to leave home and go play at Alemany. You aint gotta go no where he’s a upcoming sophmore with an offer from UCLA. Good job D.holmes jr keep up the good work maybe those other runaways will see this and come back home and make their backyard look good instead of someone’s else.

Scholarship offer? To a HS Freshman? What happened to those troublesome NCAA rules about having to pass 7 semesters before colleges can whip out the money? I guess UCLA is trying to improve on their rotten recruiting job these past few years by hooking up 15 year olds.

Sounds to me like someone is BITTER let UCLA do what they wanna do but believe me by the end of next year that kid will have the entire pac12 offering him.

  • Young Mustang looks good

Little Holmes is the Face of Muir Football right now…and he is a good one. If he keeps this up he will be a Army all American. I am sure SR. will make sure he keeps them grades up. I don’t think this is a official offer, but I think UCLA feels he is a “Can’t miss” prospect, and they want first dibs. He is a national recruit for sure. Great story. Imagine 4 years from Now…He could be the best muirs had since Saladine!

Not surprised; nor will I be when USC and the other PAC-10 teams (especially his Dad’s alma mater north of us)come calling. His decision is far from over – Seymour taught us that.

    Full steam ahead, Mr. Holmes.

If the Mustangs focus on giving this kid a Line for the next three years, watch out! even as a freshman if his confidence level is at the point it is now he’s going to be a Sophomore with the mind of a college athlete by the time he’s a Jr. or Sr. Good luck and with the last name Holmes he can’t go wrong.

Amazing poise and talent considering he is a freshman, no sign of intimidation at all playing with boys that are as much as 4 years older than him. Certainly will be a markee player in So. Cal if he keeps with the right mindset in class and never loses focus on the field. Good luck to the lad.

At pasadenian….lil Holmes is a perfect example of a RARE breed…kids aren’t coming out of pop warner/jr all american on his level…this kid here has been groomed from the time he was pup and he is a PHENOM…it’s no high school freshman in Pasadena that can compare to young Holmes, and arguably the whole southern cal besides Desean Holmes who is at Allemany SITN ON 3 OFFERS as a freshman too…I tip my hat to his dad, big Darrick…you’ve done a hell of job with lil Darrick and lil Darnay, not just as football players but they are both GREAT young men off the field…job WELL DONE big Darrick!!

All this talk of staying at home is BS. The kid will soon be at Alemany or OC. Big D is like all the rest all talk and no real substance. Some LOYALTY, I believe maroon is his favorite color.

To whom are you addressing your comments towards. Your comments are over the top and totally out of context of any of the previous comments. Alemany has a wonderful program but you must understand that we true pasadenian’s have a long history here and when people come and take your best athletes because they are athletes we feel this is wrong. It use to be St. Francis and eventually all schools will fall in line with them. The question is when do the parents and the district start to invest in MUIR. The grounds are f’d-up, the kids have a totally different mindset and many do not care for sports other than soccer. Maybe someday things will change, coaches will stay, parents will care and teachers will support. We never see teachers at games.
