Who Wins? Monrovia or San Marino?

It’s game week for Game of the Year, Part 2….Part 1 was when Monrovia faced and beat St. Francis, now its Monrovia hosting San Marino in a battle of the top two teams in the area, with first place and a share of the Rio Hondo League crown at stake. Monrovia also is likely to receive the No. 2 seed in the CIF- Southern Section Mid-Valley Division playoffs with a win. San Marino, in addition to claiming at least a piece of the Rio Hondo League title could also grab a top four seed. The Titans are currently ranked No. 5. The Wildcats are sitting at No. 3, ready to pounce.

    This will not be a crushing one-sided affair for M-town. But, I think they get the victory.

    SM’s weak pre-league schedule must change to get the Titans at least familiar with facing a team close to what Monrovia brings, which is defensive team speed and a fast many-pronged offensive attack. Receivers running crossing patterna and flooding zones and just doing a simple out pattern…that gets covered softly…and boom down the sidelines for 6. The SM defense has not seen anything close to that.

    SM will be able to move the ball, at least that is my prediction. They will need to show physical play early
    and push their ground game. The big game experience factor gives M-town the edge in any type of close game.

    IN REALITY, a Monrovia loss may be just what they need in order to awaken and anger the beast – before the Clete tailgate party comes to town and catches them in a green and white dream.
