BOYS: Tribune 113, Star-News 110 — The Star-News erased a double-figure deficit in the second half but missed two 3-pointers that would have tied the game in the final minute. The series is now tied 5-5. Pasadena’s Andre Spight scored 32 points and was the Star-News team MVP. Spight also won the 3-point contest.

GIRLS: Tribune 78, Star-News 68 — The Star-News lost touch in the closing minutes and had no answer for the Tribune’s size advantage. Keppel’s Alyson Lock scored a game-high 21 points to earn team MVP honors. The Star-News’ series lead is now 6-4.

How boring was that Keppel game tonight, oops, I mean All-Star Game… Keppel coach blew it again, wore down Locke (clearly the best player in the game) even though she wouldn’t pass off to ALL those shooters on the team…congrads to all the ladies that participated, but I think the fans would like to see less players n each team…more playing time for the actual “All-Stars”… No more then 10 per team…oh, and get a coach that can coach, he just happened to be hired to coach a team that was already good, and he choked! Again!

15 girls selected to play and 4 are from Keppel. Before the game even started it didn’t look good for any girl who was not on their team. There are 5 seniors who made Star News First team. Two of them averaged more than 22 points a game and they barely touched the ball. Star News team lost because the Tribune Coach did a much better job managing his all stars. Different girls were allowed to shine vs. one person taking the what seemed to be close to half the shots taken by the Star News team. Coach Wiard was smart, he had several different girls guard #10 from Keppel and eventually she got tired. She started missing her shots but for some reason they kept her in and she kept taking and missing them. Tribune played team ball and that is why they won. It was not a fun game to watch and I know a lot of parents and fans of other girls on the Star News Team were disappointed they paid money to be there.

Seven minutes into the game, Coach Kikuchi had already subbed in three rotations, so I wouldn’t say he didn’t give fair playing time. As for the Tribune team, they won because they had a notable size edge.
