Maranatha routs Firebaugh, 56-3, to improve to 2-0

LYNWOOD >> The Jude Oliva era at Maranatha High School couldn’t have started better.
Eli Snyder threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns and the Minutemen routed their second consecutive opponent, scoring a 56-3 victory over Firebaugh in a nonleague game at Lynwood High School. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
Xavius Boone rushed had four receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns for Maranatha, which improved to 2-0. The junior also rushed for 88 yards and a score.
Deandre Pettway rushed for 60 yards for Firebaugh, which slipped to 0-2.
Maranatha put it away in the first half, scoring 30 points in the second quarter for a 42-0 lead at the break.
Maranatha coach Jude Oliva: “I don’t if we’re changing the program, we’re just trying to build off that foundation. I think one of the things we try to do for our boys is to let them know to come out and compete every day. We’re still a work in progress, especially the first half today, where we didn’t play very well. But we cleaned some stuff up in the second half. We’re excited about our progress and build off that great foundation that was already here.”
