STAR-NEWS SUPER 23 RANKINGS
1. Monrovia (4-0) – The Wildcats opened some eyes with their 31-10 victory over South Hills. If they beat St. Francis this week, you can pencil Monrovia in for another CIF-SS title and a regional bowl appearance.
2. St. Francis (4-0) -– The Knights have looked Golden up to now, including big wins over La Mirada and Damien the past two weeks. Now they take on Monrovia, and with their versatility on offense, you have to like their chances.
3. Muir (3-1) — The Mustangs rolled Hoover in their Pacific League opener. I expect more of the same the rest of the way, but they should get a battle from Burbank. But all signs point to another league title.
4. Rio Hondo Prep (4-1) –- The Kares look destined for another Northeast title game apperance. First up is the Prep League, which they should run the table in.
5. San Marino (3-1) — There just seems no stopping the Titans offense, which has looked like a runaway train all season. I don’t expect a loss until the final week of the season, when they host Monrovia.
6. La Salle (3-2) — The Lancers took their first step toward a league title with a rout of St. Bernard. You can expect more of the same the rest of the way. Then we’ll see what they have for the playoffs.
7. Pasadena Poly (4-0) –- The Panthers have looked solid up to now. They are legit at No. 2 in the Northeast, and could challenge Rio Hondo for Prep League supremacy.
8. Rosemead (3-1) — The Panthers walking wounded are starting to return. They looked impressive in routing San Gabriel last week. They should challenge Arroyo in the Mission Valley League.
9. Gabrielino (4-1) — The Eagles have looked good in nonleague for the second consecutive season. But can they avoid a fall in league play? I think they can and look at least as the third-best in the Mission Valley.
10. Arcadia (2-2) – The Apaches were ambushed by Burbank in their Pacific League opener. But this still looks like a playoff team.
