La salle has an alarming amount of solid transfers each year I hope coach russ gordon is playing by the books. They will probably lose to cathedral just based off the result from last year and st. francis is still the best team in the area placing them in 3rd or 4th place in their league. They’ll probably blow out maranatha in the cross town “rivalry.” I don’t see them beating bishop diego which would make them 7-3 with a possible at large bid. Speaking of their cross town rival.. or in better words little brother in maranatha I would be surprised if the game is close. Maranatha has a weak schedule to say the least and the olympic league is lacking real talent these days. They’ll probably end up beating a inexperienced azusa team and i don’t see any team from the olympic challenging them. either 9-1 or 8-2 and sadly their conference isn’t that intimidating either they should make a playoff run under newly acquired coach steve bogan. Now to St. Francis… Ty gangi was the leader of the team last year. The former player of the year will be dearly missed by the coaches and future division one player dylan crawford. I don’t know who’ll start, possibly the young buck from monrovia but he has extremely large shoes to fill. The team they had last year would’ve won the league easily and the conference undoubtedly this year… burbank or muir would’ve challenged them??? hard to imagine when they lost to serra off a dropped touchdown. San marino is good.. tyler spitzer is good.. but monrovia has too many “good” players to name. They don’t have scooby but they’re role players from last year are no longer role players.

A lot of what you say makes sense..

      Coach Gordon& La Salle
Are doing a great job in attracting student athletes.. I know for a fact that the move CIF made putting La Salle in the Mission league (which is now the Angeles league) has had families think twice about going to the San Fernando Valley for a private school education when they have the balance of competitive academics and athletics in their own backyard.

Regardless of what private school the kids choose to attend I just hope that Pasadena kids will stay in Pasadena and not take school funded transportation to Alemany, Cathedral or Crespi.

I think the game against Cathedral will be closer than you think.

I predict a 8-2 record struggling with St.Francis (who wins league) and Bishop Diego and winning a dog fight against Cathedral.

        @ Balance life.
Yes i agree with you about Muir, they usually bring in a handful of kids each offseason, but they are a public school, which from my point of view makes everything a little murky.

St. Francis on the other hand rarely gets transfer because they very rarely give large amounts of financial aid for athletes. St. Francis did get a few transfers this offseason, but i’d think the reason is due to last years successes.

Maranatha’s football has the potential to have a top flight program as shown by basketball head coach Tim Tucker. The school is obviously committed to their sports programs bringing in respected coaches and spending a bad amount of money on facilities and gear. They are unveiling a new football field for the upcoming season and recently redid their weight room. They had “oregon” like helmets last year which from all accounts don’t come cheap. If Coach Bogan can sell the program correctly they could be good really really good.

Well said.. I will say St. Francis has given quit a bit of aid out this year to upper class man transfers and incoming freshman.

Maranatha is doing a good job with basketball tuck is the man!!

I think Maranatha will not be very successful in football in comparison to St. Francis, La Salle, muir and schools alike due to the division they play in. What your thoughts on this?

La Salle is under construction right now with a new weight room as well as a new locker room (both to be completed by 8/15/2014) which is exciting for all student athletes. I personally believe the president at La Salle has committed to athletics.

            @ Balance life.

La salle is leaps and bounds ahead of maranatha when it comes to football. Since Coach Gordon got hired they’ve had a huge increase in transfers.

I don’t understand why Maranatha isn’t a desired destination due to its christian private school appeal for parents and their campus isn’t too bad either. I think like how coach tucker has had an immediate impact if the AD and new Head Coach play their cards right they could do the same for the football program. Ive heard from multiple sources (possible transfers) that Maranatha isn’t willing to give that much in financial aid, which confuses me since they are putting so much money into their facilities… you’d think it would be the other way around (i.e. La Salle)

I expect La Salle will keep growing as a football program. I give them 2 or 3 years before they really compete with St. Francis, which isn’t too bad when put into perspective. (3 years ago they lost to maranatha 20-3 in the rivalry game)

          • Balance life

            Well said Pasadenas.

Coach Gordon was a great hire for La Salle and I hope the Maranatha hire turns out to be a great one as well.

    • Balance life

I will bet you that La Salle will have less transfers than Muir, St. Francis, and Cathedral.

Maranatha football will have their fair share of transfers as well as their basketball team has publicly stated.
