Mayfield sweeps Westridge in volleyball

Mayfield Senior School’s path to a potential CIF-Southern Section postseason volleyball tournament berth took a side trip through Arizona.
The Cubs apparently learned they have a chance to make a postseason run while playing at last weekend’s Tournament of Champions in Tempe, Ariz. They did not win the event, but the 3-3 finish apparently changed the direction of the team.
Mayfield showed that new direction in Tuesday evening’s three-game Prep League sweep of visiting Westridge. The Cubs (14-7, 6-2) remained in the hunt for the league title with the 25-18, 25-23, 25-13 victory.
