PASADENA >> The La Salle High School boys basketball team needed a respite from its rugged Camino Real League schedule.

It had one sort of by accident in the MLK Day Showdown on Monday afternoon. The Lancers were scheduled to play San Diego’s Morse in one of the eight games played on the Pasadena campus. But when Maranatha opted to play in other events, La Salle coach Ernest Baskerville sought out La Verne Lutheran as a replacement.

The Trojans, with a student population of 50 youths who won the 2010 CIF State Division V championship, were an eager replacement. But the Lancers (9-9) were way too much for the Trojans (9-7), who participated to show off 6-foot-4 sophomore Terrence Lang.

La Salle scored a 72-32 victory.
