There was no stopping Tyler Dorsey this season.
When the Maranatha High School boys basketball team needed a big rally, like the Minutemen did in an Olympic League game against Village Christian, there was Dorsey. When other players were not quite hitting, there was Dorsey, like when he dropped in a season-high 52 points against Chaminade in the CIF State Division IV Southern California regional quarterfinals.
On Friday, he was named California’s Gatorade boys basketball player of the year.
“It’s truly a blessing,” Dorsey said of the honor. “I feel like all the work I put in to be one of the best players in California is amazing. I did not know if I was going to get it or not. It means a lot.”
