Keppel advances to state title game

The Mark Keppel High School girls basketball team is finally going to the big dance.
The Aztecs defeated Redondo Union, 48-44, on Saturday morning at The Walter Pyramid on the campus of Cal State Long Beach to advance to next Saturday’s CIF State Division II championship game at Haas Pavilion at Cal.
Keppel led, 46-44, with 9.8 seconds left. The Sea Hawks called timeout, but the tenacious Keppel defense stole the ball and scored to seal the victory.
Keppel will play Archbishop Mitty, which defeated Dublin 63-49.

Tyler Dorsey is Gatorade Player of the Year

AR-150329938.jpg&maxh=400&maxw=667

There was no stopping Tyler Dorsey this season.
When the Maranatha High School boys basketball team needed a big rally, like the Minutemen did in an Olympic League game against Village Christian, there was Dorsey. When other players were not quite hitting, there was Dorsey, like when he dropped in a season-high 52 points against Chaminade in the CIF State Division IV Southern California regional quarterfinals.
On Friday, he was named California’s Gatorade boys basketball player of the year.
“It’s truly a blessing,” Dorsey said of the honor. “I feel like all the work I put in to be one of the best players in California is amazing. I did not know if I was going to get it or not. It means a lot.”
