San Gabriel wins Pasadena Poly volleyball tournament

San Gabriel High School won the Pasadena Poly volleyball tournament, defeating Western Christian of Upland 2-25, 26-24, 17-15 in the championship match.
“Anything can happen in a short game and SG was fortunate enough to have the breaks go their way in both matches,” Matadors coach Larry Kanow said of the three-game semifinals and finals.”
San Gabriel defeated Poly, 25-21, 23-25, 15-8, in the semifinals. Western Christian defeated Flintridge Prep 26-24, 25-13.
The Matadors’ Julia Wong was the MVP and teammate Joanna Che, Western Christian’s Chelsea Nuss and Kalin Miramontes, Poly’s Kennedy Cameron and Flintridge Prep’s Lauren Stiles were selected all-tournament.
San Gabriel was the lone team to win all of its pool-play games.
