ALMONT LEAGUE
ALHAMBRA 5, SCHURR 3

ALHAMBRA >> The chase for the Almont League softball title got a little tighter Tuesday.Catcher Jaclyn Silva had two hits and two RBIs and host Alhambra High School got back in the race with a 5-3 victory over Schurr at Moor Field.
Julissa Moran and Dezarae Murray also had two hits each for the Moors, who improved to 13-5-2 and moved into a second-place tie with the Spartans (16-6) at 5-2 in league play. Both trail first-place Montebello (11-12, 6-1) by one game. The Oilers defeated Keppel, 12-0, on Tuesday.
Montebello hosts Alhambra on Thursday.
Alhambra, which had 10 hits, went up 3-0 in the third on a RBI double by Alyah Hernandez and a RBI grounder by Silva.
The Moors then countered two runs by Schurr in the fourth by scoring one run in the fifth and sixth innings on RBIs by Destiny Alegria and Silva.
Alhambra’s Jaclyn Silva: “It’s a big win. We just made adjustments from the first inning, watching (Karen Roman) pitch and making adjustments.”
Schurr coach Bobby Madrid: “We left girls on base. We just can’t do that against caliber teams like Alhambra and Montebello (last week). (Against) Montebello we left 13 on base and today 11. If we score half of those (today), we’re playing in the bottom of the seventh. It’s frustrating. Not to take away anything from Alhambra, because they are a good team, but we let one go today.”
