Wednesday Recap: Pasadena Poly girls water polo advances to the finals after winning Santa Ana Valley in OT

Pasadena Poly 6, Santa Ana Valley 4, OT — The Panthers advanced to a CIF Southern Section title game for the second time in three years. The top-seeded Panthers (21-5) will play No. 2 seed Xavier Prep (26-7) on Saturday at Irvine High in Division 5. Poly goalkeeper Kate McInerny shut out fourth seed Santa Ana Valley (24-8) in overtime in a game played at Ocean View High. Freshman Talie Wilmans scored her second goal of the game two minutes into the first overtime to give Poly the lead. Colleen Woo had tied the game at the end of the third quarter. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter. Freshman Kate Kelleher scored twice.

Boys soccer
La Canada 4, Webb 0 — The visiting Spartans scored three times in a 10-minute span in the second half in the Division 6 second-round game. Jake Tolkin had a goal and assist and Arian Shapourifar, Jack Meeker and Armand Manoukian each scored. The Spartans (12-4-6) will play host to top seed Nogales on Saturday.
Maranatha 4, Campbell Hall 1 — Michael Tufenkian scored twice, Chris Morales and Ezekial Funches scored and Leland Oliver had two assists for the host Minutemen in the Division 6 second-round game. Maranatha (11-5-5) will play host to Dunnin Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Boys tennis
Arcadia 18, Canyon 0 — Charles Deng, Nicholas Figueira and Jun Nakamine each swept in singles for the Apaches, who won their season opener. Also for Arcadia, the team of Jimmy Liu and Vincent Leong swept in doubles.
