St. Francis boys basketball makes big-time hire with Chaminade’s Todd Wolfson

By Jack Pollon, Daily News contributor
Chaminade boys basketball coach Todd Wolfson has left the West Hills campus and has taken the same position at St. Francis in La Canada.
Wolfson spent seven successful seasons at Chaminade, leading the Eagles to a CIF Division III state championship in 2014.
Wolfson was 142-48 over seven seasons and was named Cal Hi Sports coach of the year in 2014 as well as Daily News Coach of the Year.
Wolfson led Chaminade to a Southern Section championship game appearance in 2009 and was the division coach of the year despite losing to perennial power Price in the finals.
“Seven years ago I was hired to bring excitement to the Chaminade boys basketball program and compete for championships every year,” said Wolfson in a statement posted to his Twitter feed. “I feel with the help of an amazing athletic director, administration, assistant coaches and players, we accomplished that task.”
Wolfson has also had tremendous success moving players to the next level.
Wolfson was instrumental in helping the following players move on: Jules Montgomery (Prairie View A&M), Jamal McClerkin (Metro St.), Gilles Dierickx (Washington), Jaron Martin (UC Irvine), Jack Williams (Pacific) and Michael Oguine (Montana).

Tribune/Star-News/Whittier Softball All-Star game for seniors and underclassmen set for June 7 at U. of La Verne

allstar
West Covina High School softball coach Jesse Mendez, a catalyst in keeping the San Gabriel Valley all-star softball game alive the past couple years, is working with San Gabriel Valley coaches with help from our San Gabriel Valley sports team of reporters to create the inaugural San Gabriel Valley/Pasadena Star-News/Whittier Daily News senior all-star game AND Underclassmen game on June 7 at the University of La Verne’s state of art softball complex. Similar to the annual Tribune/Star-News All-Star basketball games, players will be selected from the SGVN readership, pitting the Tribune vs. the Star-News/Whittier Daily News All-Stars on Sunday, June 7, which follows the June 5-6 CIF softball championships. The game will be a doubleheader with the exciting underclassman game followed by the final game for seniors. Coaches in the Star-News area wanting to nominate players should reach out to keith.lair@langnews.com and in Whittier email steve.ramirez@langnews.com, and also include me in the emails at fred.robledo@langnews.com. Tribune coaches should get in touch with me or Jesse Mendez and of course this thread is a good place for readers to suggest who should be in the games.
