Tribune/Star-News/Whittier Softball All-Star game for seniors and underclassmen set for June 7 at U. of La Verne

allstar
West Covina High School softball coach Jesse Mendez, a catalyst in keeping the San Gabriel Valley all-star softball game alive the past couple years, is working with San Gabriel Valley coaches with help from our San Gabriel Valley sports team of reporters to create the inaugural San Gabriel Valley/Pasadena Star-News/Whittier Daily News senior all-star game AND Underclassmen game on June 7 at the University of La Verne’s state of art softball complex. Similar to the annual Tribune/Star-News All-Star basketball games, players will be selected from the SGVN readership, pitting the Tribune vs. the Star-News/Whittier Daily News All-Stars on Sunday, June 7, which follows the June 5-6 CIF softball championships. The game will be a doubleheader with the exciting underclassman game followed by the final game for seniors. Coaches in the Star-News area wanting to nominate players should reach out to keith.lair@langnews.com and in Whittier email steve.ramirez@langnews.com, and also include me in the emails at fred.robledo@langnews.com. Tribune coaches should get in touch with me or Jesse Mendez and of course this thread is a good place for readers to suggest who should be in the games.

South Pasadena principal says she received evidence that its football team was guilty of illegally videotaping La Canada’s practice

sopascele
Above: South Pasadena players and cheerleaders celebrate Friday’s victory over La Canada believing they qualified for a playoff berth. They learned later that night the game would be forfeited.

Members of South Pasadena’s football team and its parents and supporters are still trying to sort out exactly why the school was forced to forfeit Friday’s 21-3 victory over rival La Canada in a game that determined an automatic playoff berth to this week’s CIF-Southern Section Central Division playoffs.

South Pasadena principal Janet Anderson sent an email to parents of the Tigers football team on Monday explaining that she received “evidence” that its football team had committed a violation of the CIF-SS Blue Book Rule 512 that prohibits teams from videotaping or taking still pictures of an opponents practice without consent of the participating school.

Anderson said she received a call from La Canada principal Ian Mcfeat on Thursday informing her of the alleged violation, but it is not clear if the allegation involves South Pasadena head coach Marty Konrad, one of his assistant coaches or Konrad’s brother Nick, who is not a member of the coaching staff.
