Dog beach controversy

I got this very nice note  from a loyal reader. It appears in the comment section of the original dog beach post, but since that's way down the list, I reprint it here unedited in its entirety:

I feel Josh has proven himself as a self centered egotistical attention-freak by publishing this "secret beach." Perhaps the intentions were just to get a reaction and to piss people off who rely on this place for possibly rehabilitation of aggressive dogs or just having privacy, like Anonymous. There's actually a private community living down from the beach Josh talks about, and thanks to his public announcement, the residents now can enjoy the craziness of all the public humans, screaming children, and their animals. Gee, Josh, I bet you are voted Mr. Popular of the south Bay by the residents in this secret location which is now public. Hurray for Josh for being Mr. A-Hole of the k9 secret hideouts, of which some of us have been living at for quite some time. I hope Josh never finds out where my private address is for the public will surely surround my place with their families and dogs: fortunately, I like zoos, so bring it on Mr. Media! ooops, yes, I forgot to mention, I enjoy the circus, too, so the more the merrier - NOT!

Oh heavens to Betsy, a member of the public might want to go to a public beach! Shame on me for sharing.

Actually, shame on you for somehow thinking you own a piece of property that belongs to everybody. And if anybody brings aggressive dogs to a public beach for rehabilitation, well, they probably aren't fit to have a dog in the first place.

It's a rock-strewn, cove reeking with the smell of dead fish. Not exactly a place one would take the kids. But now people are upset because they live one beach over. If so, what do you want, TWO beaches to yourself? The one you're entitled to and the one NEXT to it? Why? Because some kids might be playing a quarter mile away? What exactly do you think you're entitled to?

No, I would never publish a private address. But of course, there's nothing private about what I've written about.

But now would be a good time to remind people that it is in fact legal to walk on any beach -- even private ones -- so long as you keep below the water line.

Thanks for calling me a "self centered egotistical attention-freak."

But you left out pompous.

Kudos, Josh, on reminding us that beaches are for everyone - not the privileged few!

You think the point of the post was to get a reaction? A reaction from who??? And what kind? The point of the post was to inform people of another place their dogs might want to play. The location wasn't even in the post. People read way too much into stuff like this. This wasn't a personal attack just to piss of some hermit living in a "private beach community" on a public beach who can't handle a couple kids and some barking dogs. SW, have you been into the world lately or do you just hang out at your precious private beach?

I live in the private community in which the insulting poster mentioned. For the record, I am NOT a dog fan and am constantly awakened at all hours by the yapping, yipping, barking dogs who reside here in the club. However, every person has the right to own a dog and a right to enjoy public beaches. As a representative of the public interest, Josh has every right to make members of the public aware of said public beaches. So, please, Mr. Man, calm down. To disregard the public's right in favor of your own narrow interests strikes me as, well, both "self centered" (sic) and "egotistical."

You and I both know, Mr. I-Want-All-Beaches, that dogs and "public humans" who are on the public beach at the base of Trump's course are nowhere NEAR the club's private beach. We cannot see the "public humans" nor hear their "screaming children and animals" from where we are. So quit your baby whining, because that we CAN hear, on this blog (talk about your "attention freak"), and frankly it's annoying.

Mr. Yapper needs to get a reality check. I have been down at the "doggy beach" and let me tell you it ain't nothing to write home about. Mr. Yapper if you are really concerned about your beach, then maybe you should take your smart a** down there and attend to it and clean it up as it looks pathetic. Not only it smells nasty it is filled with trash. Everything around Trump's property is nice and clean yet, you get to the "public" side and it is pathetic. And last but not least, you might want to think about all of those gulf carts that go around driven like maniacs by your spoiled children. I almost got run over by them before. So before you go calling other people A-holes and passing judgment about your "pretty" and "quite" neighborhood take a look around you and actually take care of its sorry state. And while you are at it, get a life!

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
