Vote for (maybe) 1st Dog

You've probably noticed we're in the middle of a presidential race.
If John McCain is elected, we'll get 4 First Canines: Sam, an English springer spaniel; Lucy & Desi, Yorkshire terriers; and Coco, a mixed breed.
But what about Barack Obama? He's dog-less. He's promised his kids a dog, but has yet to deliver. Michelle Obama insists the family IS getting a dog. And that's where the AKC comes in:
"Deciding what breed to get is as important as deciding whether to get a dog in the first place," says AKC spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "The first step in being a responsible pet owner is to do some serious and careful research to determine which breed of dog is right for you and your family."
Taking into account the Obama daughters' allergies and ages (6 and 9) -- plus the demands that will be placed on a "First Dog" (as in no biting the visiting ambassador and a tolerance for travel), the AKC has put together a short list of breeds that would suit the Obamas:
