Missing Moe
Moe, a chimp that gained notoriety a few years ago when two other chimps attacked a human who was celebrating Moe's birthday, has escaped.
He's been missing since he left his home in Devore last week. Although he was innocent in the birthday attack -- which was apparently a fight over birthday cake -- Moe is not exactly the kind of monkey you'd want to run into by accident. He's attacked people before. In 1998, he bit a police officer and a woman in two separate incidents.
It would have been really funny if their names were Curly and Larry.
I realize the odds of Moe turning up in the South Bay are pretty slim, but if you happen to see a chimpanzee wandering down Lomita Boulevard, don't call the police. Call me. I'll take him home with me and let him drink all the whiskey and smoke all the cigarettes he wants.
And when other chimps come over for parties, I'll be sure to have plenty of birthday cake for all of them.

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Too bad Moe wasn't left in the care of his human family...then they would not have been attacked and Moe wouldn't be missing. I know dogs who have bitten more than two people and are still with their families....
