coyote.jpgOur Daily Breeze colleague Larry Altman has posted an item about coyote sightings in Torrance. One caller reportedly told police a coyote had killed a cat.

Police received four calls in the early morning hours Tuesday reporting coyotes roaming around the neighborhood of Crest and Highcliff roads.

Anyone seeing a coyote is asked to call the Torrance Police Department's Animal Control Office at 310-618-3850 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours, call 310-328-3456,

Contact them? I did and they told me there was nothing they could do. They aren't allowed to use firearms or sedatives because they are pescribed drugs and that they would need another incident to do anything. Well, more animals were killed last week in Victoria Knolls. Eventually they will attack a small child or a runner like they did in Griffith Park and actually killed a runner earlier this fall in the state of Maine.
The city can find funds to pay for goats to remove brush (a great idea). I think they can find money to trap the coyotes and move them to the desert...possibly in conjunction with Rolling Hills Estates and Chandler Quarry owners. Come on, folks. Let's not wait. This is serious.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
