Dog mornings

Tess.jpgMy dog Tess, a border collie, has no shortage of energy.

Take this morning. At about, oh, 4 a.m.

I'm sound asleep when suddenly she leaps onto the middle of my bed, paws wet (and muddy, I presume, it was really too dark to tell, which is just as well).  The doggie door at my house allows her backyard access, though she usually sleeps through the night inside.

She must have been working on one the 3 good-sized holes/fortresses she's been digging for herself out there.

Once on the bed, she dive-bombs my face with endless licks as I helplessly try to fend her off.

Eventually she jumps back down into her crate on the bedroom floor with a sigh, falling back to sleep.

Unlike me, of course.

Ooohhh poor Donna, and awww what a cutie pie is Tess for giving her mommy kisses! The timing was a little wrong though!

Don't you hate it how dogs, and some humans, can go right back to sleep while you are left tossing and turning?

I love the picture. So cute!!!

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
