Calling all bees -- and devils and ghosts and pirates
Here is our first entry in the pet costume photos that we will feature in South Bay Pets over the next couple weeks.
This particular entry, a Boston terrier named Pembleton, was actually involuntary. Pembleton belongs to Kristin, the reporter who sits behind me, and I admit that I begged and pleaded and mildly threatened her before she finally turned over a picture of Pembleton in this year's costume.
Here's her description (which I also forced her to provide):
Pembleton Agostoni dressed up this weekend in his busy bee costume, which he wore comfortably for about 2 minutes as his parents, Kristin and Scott, snapped pictures. And then the bee suit was off, and so was Pembleton, running around for his tennis ball. He is a 4-year-old Boston terrier from Marina del Rey.
Not satisfied, I managed to cajole some more details out of Kristin -- like the fact that Pembleton's previous costumes have been, in most recent order, a devil, a frog, a lobster and Spiderman. But the devil and bee have suited his personality the best, Kristin said.
I think both Pembleton and his bee costume are adorable, although Kristin is modest. "Oh, it's just a store-bought costume," she said. She said the costume's "strategically placed" velcro straps worked especially well for Pembleton, who weighs 26 pounds (I'm not a reporter for nothing!).
So send us your pics! We'll post 'em. Be sure to tell us a little bit about your pet and the costume.
With Josh leaving on vacation this week (and without a word about that to his co-blogger left behind, I might add), we're always looking for good copy.

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
