My co-worker Sandy Gerety always gets mad at me when I make fun of little dogs. She thinks it's because I have some sort of size complex, if you know what I mean.

Well, my dog isn't all that big (Rocket weighs 72 pounds, which is bigger than a rat, but smaller than, say, his friend Riley, a German shepherd who weighs at least 1,200 pounds.

But I like small dogs just fine. I espcially like it when my cat chases them down the street.

Anyway, this was a few weeks ago, but Sandy took her two pups Desi and Carmen to be blessed.

Here's how Sandy described the event, along with a few pictures of her dogs.

The one photo has Rachel holding Desi so she can get blessed - we asked for a special blessing on her tummy (since she has a weak tummy). She took umbrage at this strange man in a white dress trying to touch her tummy. The other pic is of a freezing Carmen, who was looking around for a blanket to crawl under.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Josh Grossberg grew up with the usual array of animals: goldfish, dogs, hamsters, parakeets and turtles. He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(Video: Rocket the Dog) and is the least popular person on his block. He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
