The nicest snake in Rancho Palos Verdes
You always have to be on the lookout for snakes while walking through the brush that dots t
he South Bay -- especially on hot days like today. They like to sun themselves on open pathways.
But snakes are quiet, sneaky and low to the ground. They're not always easy to spot.
So this morning, me and the idiot dog were walking out on the trails in RPV when I looked down and noticed that Rocket was STANDING ON A SNAKE! He was standing right on top of its little snake body.
I yanked him hard and beat a hasty retreat into the other direction. The snake and the dog never seemed to notice each other.
Thank you Mr. Snake for not biting my dog. I owe you one.

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. Madeline, your dead snake was probably a striped racer. Your description fits and maybe it was run over? I saw one yesterday crossing our street...they are very fast!
Found a dead snake, small in length (12-14 inches)and diameter, outside my garage, with beautiful copper coloring along its belly. Dark green/black on top. There are many feral cats in the area, but no blood on the snake, so I'm wondering how it died, but also what kind of snake..
you should have steped on the snake.
it was most likely a gopher snake , if it was a baby rattlesnake and your dogs paw was on its body he would have been surley bit.
I am almost positive it was a gopher snake, harmless brown snakes that kind of looks like a rattlesnake and even will shake its tail and try to sound like a rattlesnake if threatend.
I actually have a 4 footer that I collected at abolone cove when it was the size of a earthworm
I'm so glad Rocket is okay. Oh, and you too Josh!
What do I look like, a herpetologist?
