halloween dogs.jpgThere's a free Howl-O-Ween pet photo and costume contest coming up this Saturday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 25). at the Studly Pooch Pet Spa in Hermosa Beach.

Professional pet photographer Erin Tomanek of Paw Prints Photos will take a free 5x7 photo of every pet and owner who attends. Pet owners will be asked to donate a $5 "sit fee" that will be then donated to The Mini Schnauzer Rescue of Redondo Beach.

The spa is at 1127 Aviation Blvd., phone: 310-376-7033.

"This is our second year doing a Halloween event," said Wes Murph, owner of the Studly Pooch. "Last year was a blast and this year will be a lot of fun, too. The best part is seeing some of the pet costumes."

Ah, which reminds me.

We're asking all South Bay Pets Blog readers to send us pictures of their pets in costume for posting. Don't make Josh and me dress our dogs up to fill the void!

We posted our first (and so far only) picture, of Pembleton the Bee, the other day.

There's gotta be more of you out there??

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Josh Grossberg grew up with the usual array of animals: goldfish, dogs, hamsters, parakeets and turtles. He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(Video: Rocket the Dog) and is the least popular person on his block. He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
