I am don't really know what to say...poor Tess has had it with the splints. I am sure she is much happier right now.

Jon says "poor puppy!!"

How are you holding up? :{

When the vet saw us sitting in the waiting room Friday morning -- Tess "coned" but without her splint, me looking, I'm sure, quite weary -- he came out and suggested that perhaps we should try her without the splint.

While it's "a bit of a risk," as he put it, it seems that Tess is just determined to get herself out of those things, cone or no cone. (I looked out in the backyard Friday morning to see the splint dangling from her paw, flopping around. A few minutes later, it was lying in the middle of the yard.)

So he said to try to keep her "quiet" (HA) and come back in 10 days for a check to make sure the toe is still healing. We're 6 weeks into the projected 8-week recovery period, so hopefully things are well on their way to mending by now.

She does seem much happier, I have to say.

And you know, when the vet told us 'no more splints,' Tess actually 'smiled' up at him (really!), her little face framed in the cone.

He had to laugh, told her he loved her.

poor little Tess. She must be in cloud 9.
I dont blame her for being miserable with the cone and the splint. But she did have some colorful splnts though......

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
