A special thanks to Kristin Coronado of the Washington Post.

Final update:  Happy ending for this one. Cookie and Coco have found a new home -- together.

posted earlier today about two 3-year-old Labrador retrievers, Cookie and Coco, whose family must move and cannot take them along. The owner, Sarah, needs to find a home where they will be kept together.

I received this email from her tonight, so if you're interested, contact Julie whose email is included below:

Thank you all so much for your reply.
I've been so overwhelmed with the enormous response from my plea, that it has been hard to get back to everyone.
In the last 36 hours alone, I have received over 200 emails with offers to help find Cookie and Coco a great home together.
I received a call from someone who volunteers for the SCLRR (Southern Californian Lab retriever Rescue). She has offered to help me with the screening and adopting process. You can contact Julie @ Juliehaunani@gmail.com
I will do my best to answer any and all questions about my dogs. Just please forgive me if it takes a few days. Thank you all so much. God bless you for being so wonderful and thoughtful.
Regards. Sarah.

Sounds like they wound up in a home realtively close to the former owner (in the L.A. area) who reported to the Washington Post that she receives photos of the dogs and that her kids have been invited to go hiking with them by the new owners.

I posted this and was led to believe from the person who forwarded it that you lived near us in the NC mountains. We even thought the co-worker's sister knew you. I'm not sure if that part's true or not. However, a response I got from a friend in Los Angeles said she works at "D Pet Hotels" and had just got a call from someone who had rescued two labs by the names of Cookie and Coco, wanting to pamper them a little. Crazy how this has made it around full circle again and again, huh? Celebrity dogs now. Hope you and your family are well and blessed.

Sarah,
This has made it around the world! I am in Newport, RI, and I immediately sent this email out to my HUGE list, and the response was overwhelming...my husband and I really wanted to adopt them, too! I have focused on this for many days, and am still fielding emails and calls!!! I can only imagine the ones YOU have been getting! God Bless you and your family and those 2 wonderful doggies!
Warm Regards,
Sally King

Oh Sarah, I am so sorry you are going through this. I lost my home a year ago last August, and we at the time had 3 labs. Chocolate, Black and Yellow. Luke, Jake and Brady. I knew we had to leave, as we did not want to have the kids answer the door when the Sherrif came with the get out order. However it took me months to find a wonderful landlady who rented me a house she owns and allowed me to take my boys. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone, it has happened to many of us. Keep looking for a place that will take them while you are waiting. Exhaust all your possibilities if you have not already, and know that Coco and Cookie know how much you love them. If there is anything I can do please let me know. Again I am so sorry.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
