No, you don't. I do. He may be a monster, but he's an adorable one.

But others may disagree. If you're one of them, you can attend a contest in Hermosa Beach on Valentine's Day.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is behing hosted by Wes Murph of the Studly Pooch. Who's he? I have no idea. But the event is a fundraiser for a local animal shelter, according to the press release.

Here, let me sorta re-type the release since Wes faxed it instead of e-mailing it. So much for my plans of going paperless.

On hand will be professional pet photographer Erin Tomanek from Paw Prints Pet Portraits., who will give every pet owner a free 5-by-7 color print. Pet owners will be able to buy more if they want.

First place winner (don't worry; my dog won't be entering) will will a free full-service grooming, which is worth $60. Second place will be given the $49 grooming coupon pack.

All dog owners will be asked for a $10 sitting fee, which will be donated to the Carson Animal Shelter.

The Studly pooch provides high-end spa treatments for dogs and cats (cats?). They are located at 1127 Aviation Blvd., Hermosa Beach.

Call 310-376-7033 for more info. Or go here.

We could not possibly enter our Samoyed puppy, Gunther, as he would surely waltz away with said first prize. It would not be fair to the other entrants in the Cutest Pet contest.

P.S. Gunther is Sherman Jay's......cousin? Uncle? something like that...

It's a good thing you specified "cutest dog in the South Bay", because MY dogs are the poster canines for cutest, finest, funniest, silliest, sweetest, smartest (and so much more) OUTSIDE the South Bay! I'll give you that Rocket is King-of-All-He-Surveys in the South Bay, and it's just one of the reasons I will still pester you to give him to me.
Anyone else besides me going through towels trying to keep the house dry and relatively free of mud? The Eau De Wet Dog fragrance I can cope with but I'm already tired of wiping off 12 paws with every trip outside. One girl is quite the trooper who seems to not notice rain, but she likes to run and gets a lot of dirt caught up high in her claws. At least she is trained to a "paw" command so I can get to the paws without much trouble...but it took a lot of training to get there!

Ohhh, can you persuade the photographer to let you post some of the pictures?

I don't know the photog, but if you go, feel free to e-mail me a pic. I'll post it.

Correction: Gunther is Sherman Jay's newphew.

Has Rocket ever come in First Place for anything? :-)

Ladys, stop fighting. My dog is cuter than both of yours.

Yes. He was named the Loudest Dog in the South Bay by the local chamber of commerce.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
