Lost dog in Rolling Hills Estates

I just spoke with a woman who lost her dog last night in Rolling Hills Estates.

I lost a dog once and it was one of the worst things that ever happened to me. If anybody has any information, please call her immediately.

Her dog, Rudy, is 14 years old. He's sweet but scared. And he needs to take medication for pain. He was last seen on Masongate Drive on Wednesday night.

Rudy is a black sheltie-lab mix with brown feet and a white chest.

Call 310-291-6023.

Complicating matters is the fact that the family has only been in California a short time and the dog doesn't know his way around. And his tags are from Washington State. The phone number on the tags doesn't work anymore.

And please let this serve as a reminder for all of us how vital it is to keep your pets' information up to date!

Here's the link to a picture and the contact information. Lostdog.pdf

The best thing to have for your dog, is one of those I.D. tags you get from Petco, or Petsmart. We've lost two dogs in the past. Both of them were licensed and one of them had the AVID chip. However, when they were found, the people called the phone number on the I.D. tag. Both dogs were re-united with us. It is a terrible feeling to lose a dog. Notify the shelters, so they will keep an eye out, just in case he gets picked up. Leave posters around and check with the neighbors. Good luck!

Call me paranoid, but I even use a marker on masking tape or something strong enough to just paste on the dog collars. It's not pretty but I know that I've taken care of it fast and this is a good method when you visit family or friends for a few days.
We also use it if camping or just car trips. (camp spot, motel name)

The idea came from being a foster over the years and finding if I slipped messages on dogs' collars when walking in public places the dogs got plenty of interest. One person also said that they didn't feel comfortable reaching for tags and seeing the info clearly on the collar would make her more prone to help the dog. Now that I need glasses to read most anything, I understand but before thought that was just kind of selfish and lazy.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
