Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Josh Grossberg grew up with the usual array of animals: goldfish, dogs, hamsters, parakeets and turtles. He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(Video: Rocket the Dog) and is the least popular person on his block. He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.

To Josh's sister,
Sherman is gorgeous, he seems to convey total security and happiness with his life in those photos.
You describe your relationship almost exactly like I do with my dogs, it really is an honor to be their human. I'll bet you are also familiar with my favorite poem/chant/creed Love me, love my dog(s).
Thanks 3Dogs2Arms for the compliment about Sherman. I'm his human and proud to be owned by him. :-)
Bo is adorable - but if you really want to help animals in California, the Butte Humane Society (the little shelter with a big heart) is trying to win a national contest for a shelter-makeover - and you can help, simply by voting.
With the final round of voting in the competition starting today and running through Sunday evening, BHS is the only shelter in California, and in fact, the only shelter in the west to make the final round.
Please take a moment to register online at buttehumane.org and post a photo of yourself with your pet! You can vote up to ten times per day for BHS!
Agreed. There is a Portuguese water dog (Fernando) that frequents the dog park where I live and I have to say he's about the happiest dog I've ever seen. He's about a year old now, and just bounces-bounces-bounces. I'm sure the new White House puppy will enjoy having a couple young kids to romp around with. And don't lose hope -- young dogs do go through a rebellious "adolescent" phase after about a year, where they tend to defy whatever they've been taught. Should be fun.
Yeah, he's cute and all but I like the personality jumping off that puppy photo of Sherman (a few posts ago) much more.
Bo looks like he's been trained so much that he forgets to have fun. I read a report how he sits when they sit, gets up and follows at a prescribed spot when Pres walks....they got a robot, not a puppy.
Hope that the girls provide the pup with a chance to be young and there is a lot of mischievousness left under that curly coat.
