Here's the story as reported by Nick Green in the Daily Breeze: Newman, an 8-year-old Boston terrier, belonged to a family killed in a head-on collision near Lake Tahoe in July 2007.

newman.jpgThe Torrance residents were on their way to a time-share when their car was struck, killing the family of four.

Newman, their dog, was not with them and was adopted by Juan Lozano, whose sister, Maria Amelia, died in the crash. Newman was his last link to his lost family.

But last week, Newman disappeared.

Now, the dog is back.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
