Proposed California budget cuts could cut the time stray animals are held in government-funded animal shelters, according to the SF Gate.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan calls for a decrease in the amount of time shelters are required to hold animals, from the current six days to three.

Dear dog lovers,
I have a request for a "pug wheelchair" donation. My pug Harley is arthritic. His rear legs are partially uncooperative, thus confining him to total isolation. The hind legs respond to touch in certain regions leading me to believe, motion is possible. Front legs are strong and enable him to pivot around a limited radius area. I'm unable to afford a wheelchair for Harley and I will gladly reimburse the expense upon my financial recovery. Harley is very lively and regularly goes to Averill Park in San Pedro, as he has for the past several years. Unfortunately, he is enjoying the park laying on a blanket while his "friends" play and visit him to sniff hello. angelerealtor@gmail.com

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
