***Updated w/memorial service details / A Long Beach homeless man and his dog
Here's a moving story from the Long Beach Press-Telegram, our sister paper, about a homeless man who was killed in a hit-and-run incident last Sunday night and Lucky, the faithful dog he left behind. My friend and neighbor Ellen first told me about this incident earlier in the week, she's an RN at St. Mary's Medical Center where Joe, the homeless man, was a frequent visitor. I called the Press-Telegram to let them know about it and they followed up with a beautiful story in today's edition.
The focus now is on finding Lucky a new home.
Do read the story.

But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
