Someone hit my dog with their car in San Pedro
The dog is fine, but shaken. We were walking at Weymouth and 7th Street at 9 p.m Saturday night. The light turned green and we started to cross the street. A car that had been stopped at the light turned left in our direction. It didn't stop. I saw it and tried to figure out which way to move to get away. It didn't slow down. I jumped at the last second and tumbled in the street. The dog screeched.

I immediately got up and the dog had his tail down, but seemed to be fine. He either barely got swiped or yipped because he was scared. We sat on the curb just catching our breath and a couple of people stopped to see if we were OK, so not everybody is a jerk.
The car that hit us never stopped. It just kept going. This was a hit-and-run, which is pretty serious stuff. It was a dark blue or black SUV (that's what the color looked like in the dark anyway). And it had a Dodgers logo in the left rear window. If you happened to have seen this car or recognize it, please respond to this message and I'll contact the police. I don't have to know who you are. This jerk should not get away with what he did. I've been walking dogs for years and years and nothing like this has ever happened to me.
Like I said. it was 9 p.m. at Weymouth and 7th in San Pedro. Here's the sticker that was in the window:

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
Josh Grossberg grew up with the usual array of animals: goldfish, dogs, hamsters, parakeets and turtles. He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(
Josh, I hope you and Rocket are okay.
We're OK. It was a strange experience -- one of those times where everything slows down. But we came within inches of something really bad happening.
Wow, that's scary. (I don't have a Dodger logo on my dark blue suv, by the way, so it really wasn't me). Glad you're OK, I'll keep a lookout for the car.
Glad you are OK.....Hope you already reported it.
I'm glad to hear you're both okay. Something similar almost happened to my dad when he was walking his dog. The car also was making a left turn. He saw my dad and went to make the turn in front of him, not realizing that my dad had a dog on a leash. My dad was able to yank the dog back, before she was run over.
Josh, I'm glad you're both okay. Very scary stuff. I hope someone saw something and can help you catch this guy.
Was it Weymouth and 7th or 9th, because the intersection of 8th and Weymouth doesn't have a signal?
You're right Penny It was 7th. I was a little shaken up when I wrote the original post. I'll change it. Thanks.
So glad you and Rocket are okay. What a jerk that driver is and I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone on a cell phone (even tho that is illegal) being inconsiderate as they usually are! I do hope they get caught!
Hi Josh and Rocket,
So sorry to hear that happened to you two!!! You know how much my kids just adore Rocket! They would have been ABSOLUTELY devastated!! I'm glad the worst did NOT happen!! what a jerk whomever that was! He/she needs to be brought to justice!!!!! I'm very angry at just how mean people can be, but you're right, not everyone is mean! I'm glad some people who saw it pulled over, and also that nothing happened to you!!

Oh. So it was 7th? Now that changes everything.
happy to hear nothing serious happend...thats Pedro for you.....we are not even walking across 19th anymore with our dogs because we almost got hit a few times .....stop sign ? what stop sign? really it is illegal to be on the phone while driving? red light ?? naaa it was only dark orange..!...it is getting worst every day !!!
So wrong on many levels, I'm very thankful that you were alert and quick thinking, Josh.
Please give us an update so we can be certain of Rocket's well being, no stiffness?, his eating isn't affected? have you applied pressure to his underbelly to be certain of no internal injuries that are not visible to the naked eye?
Be very careful with Rocket's attitude towards vehicles now, he might shy purely because he can't protect YOU from them rather than actually be afraid of them. I worry that he'll amp up his hatred of the trash trucks as well, those are coming to his territory and threatening his master's safety.
Be safe out there everyone, every single one of us.
