These services are really catching on. Several were held last weekend but here are two more that will be presented this Sunday (Oct. 11) and next Sunday (Oct. 18):

San Pedro's event this Sunday combines a blessing of the animals with a pet information clinic at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1648 W. Ninth St.:

Join us on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. as we remember St. Francis with our annual Blessing of the Animals. A representative from one of our local animal clinics will be on hand to provide free pet care information and answer questions. In addition, we will have goodie bags filled with treats for your animal loved ones.

Call the church office at 310-831-2361. There also is information on the church's web page, www.stpeterssanpedro.org.

On Oct. 18, a week from this Sunday, two back-to-back services (9 and 10:30 a.m.) will be held at Seaside Community Church (a member of the United Church of Christ denomination) at 22940 Ocean Ave. (at 230th Street) in Torrance.

Beverly Warrenfeltz (owner of three Bichon Frise dogs, including one that is a rescue) sent us a very nice email letting us know that the event is "lots of fun -- very casual" and is held on the church patio. Call 310-375-4441 or go to their web page at www.seasidecommunitychurch.org.

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Josh Grossberg grew up with the usual array of animals: goldfish, dogs, hamsters, parakeets and turtles. He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(Video: Rocket the Dog) and is the least popular person on his block. He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
