** Updated: Sadie the Scottish terrier takes Long Beach

Owner Amelia Musser of Mackinac Island, Mich., said the last two years have been remarkable for the perky 4-year-old Scottie, who also nabbed Best In Show at the National Dog Show last month.
"It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience," she said. While the black beauty is virtually perfect, Musser credits her dog's many wins to handler Gabriel Rangel, who knows all the tricks to handling a breed known for its stubbornness.
"Scotties are independent," Rangel said. "You have to make them believe they're doing what they want to do, when they're really doing what you want them to do."
Independence aside, it's Sadie's poise and perfection in the ring that makes her stand out as a champion, he said. "She's very unusual in that she shows really well and looks the part," he said. "When you feel her, you can feel how she's so well-made."
As part of Best in Show, the winner received a $50,000 check.
When Sadie's not traveling the country, she resides with Rangel and his family in Rialto near San Bernardino, where she "runs the home."
"She's very fun and playful," said Rangel's 11-year-old daughter, Ariana.

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

I'm beside myself with happiness that Sadie won. She is prob one of the most perfect looking Scotties I have ever seen. Go Sadie.
