A day at the (Redondo Beach Dog) park: Meet Crosby

Crosby is a member of that vast breed pool known as the "terrier mix."

Having had terriers, I do have a soft spot for them, especially the wiry kind like Crosby, a 3-year-old rescue owned by Joanie and Peter whom I met at the Redondo Beach Dog Park Sunday afternoon.

Joanie has done some work with Rover Rescue, one of the South Bay's local rescue groups, and was there also with their other dog, Lola, a golden retriever.

Crosby is a very fast runner and he and Lola both were quite fascinated with the ball I'd brought into the park for Tess.

I'm told Crosby has a special affinity for "squeaky" balls so it's a good thing we didn't have one of those with us.

Terriers are so cute, I think. Crosby could star in his own Disney movie.

As you can see below, neither she nor Lola (only parts of whom can be seen to the right in these photos) rarely took their eyes off Tess' orange ball.

(Cowboy may look interested below, but he's really just waiting for the ball to be thrown so Tess will chase it ... and he can then run behind Tess and maybe find a "humping" opportunity).

I know, they were so easy to photograph -- as long as I held that orange Fetch-It ball !

About the Bloggers

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

He now owns the loudest dog in the South Bay(Video: Rocket the Dog) and is the least popular person on his block. He spends his free time in dog parks, pet shops and always has an extra plastic bag in his pocket just in case. He also has a cat.
