South Bay dog show photos

The show continues Sunday (from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m.) and admission is free. Here are the details from our earlier post.

We'll post next week on which dogs took the Best in Show honors. But here's a glimpse into the festivities from today; more photos on the jump.
(8/15 update: Be sure to check this Daily Breeze photo gallery by photographer Steve McCrank for more photos from Sunday.)
And if any of you took photos you'd like to share with our readers, email them to me (below) and we can post them here.

Some dogs got the royal treatment.
There was a bit of a wind on Saturday.

A last-minute makeup fix.

Waiting their turns.

A collie and an Old English Sheepdog waited outside Ring 7 for their respective breed competitions.

Some dogs looked downright glamorous.

A sparkly lavender cape kept this boxer looking good.

This whippet had a plush furry blanket to rest on in between show times.
Elegant.

And everyone was, of course, groomed to perfection.

Eyes? In there somewhere.

A last-minute comb-out before going on.

So where's the sheep? I don't know, we can't see anything.

The judge gets personal.

Loved the border collies. They're the best smilers in the canine world.

Are we next?

A blue merle rough-coated collie is ready to go.

So is the competition.

Don't trip.

Meanwhile, let's work on that stance a bit.

A local television station was on hand to do some interviews.

The King Charles Spaniels were a real crowd pleaser.

And some dogs and owners just enjoyed renewing old acquaintances. It was a chance to catch up on the latest dog show news for many participants.

Looking sharp.

A Shetland Sheepdog makes the rounds for the judges.

And if watching the dogs isn't enough fun, there's also SHOPPING.
This booth sold dog clothes.
If you've watched dog shows on TV before, this is a great opportunity to really see the process close-up. So stop by Sunday if you have a chance.

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.
