Trump (dog) beach update
As you may have read, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes is asking for public input regarding the use of the stretch of beach below the Trump National Golf Course that the public has been using as an off leash dog beach. This use is against current city ordinances requiring dogs to be on a leash and that dogs are not now allowed on the beach. This issue was discussed at Tuesday night's city council meeting .... where my husband Bruce spoke in favor of maintaining the beach as an off leash dog beach. ...
I wanted to let you know the contact numbers at RPV for people to voice their opinion regarding what to do with the dog beach that has developed below Trump: Main number - 310-544-5260 Katie Howe - 310-544-5267 The PV News mistakenly gave the City of Palos Verdes Estates phone number for input. You can also send an email to the city council members at CC@rpv.com .. These emails are read by the council members and are extremely important in developing their sense of the public opinion on this issue.
If you're interested in the effort, contact:I would encourage you to indicate that you are for the continued use of the Trump beach as an off leash dog park, at least on certain selected days, and that you also believe that there is also a need for a separate dog park facility that is more readily accessible and separates large dogs from small dogs.
See this online article for more information, and another piece on the issue.
And here's our earlier post.

Daily Breeze reporter Donna Littlejohn has shared her homes with a succession of wonderful, funny, and occasionally difficult canines -- Muffin, Fritz, Ellie, Mercy, Pilgrim and now Cowboy, an Australian shepherd-border collie, and Tess, a border collie. From strong-willed terriers to weirdly obsessed Australian shepherds, they've invaded her world with boundless energy, wet noses, muddy paws and soggy tennis balls. But they've really brought so much more than that -- like laughter and joy, some unexpected life lessons, and more than a few tears along the way.

Con’s to Proposed R.P.V- Dog Beach
- No longer safe for children, beach-goers, native environment or dogs.
- Heavy impact on local environment. (Tide pools, native animals, plants, hill sides, run off, etc…)
- Concern for health issues & possible spread of disease
-Not legal – all dogs must be on a 6 ft leash according to R.P.V municipal code 6.20.010
- Greater Los Angeles County also prohibits dogs on any beach, why should this be an exception?
Currently Ocean Trails beach has none of the following
- No Lifeguard = possible drowning
- No trash cans = trashed preserve
- No regulations = chaotic setting
- No bathrooms = human/dog feces and disease
- No signage = do as you please attitude
- No emergency access = slow response for accidents
No dog beach = A safe enjoyable place for residents, visitors and local environment.
the dog beach issue is officially out of control! Unfortunately this amazing natural preserve is being destroyed daily and is no longer safe for children, beach-goers, native animals or dogs!
With numbers now reaching the hundreds on any given day, the impact to this natural space is ever present. The local environment (i.e. tide pools/hillsides/native animals) is being disrespected with human/animal feces and the dog beach is commonly left trashed. With no trashcans, bathrooms, signage, emergency access or regulations, visitors are left to do as they please. There are many local alternatives for dog lovers, such as nature walks and a soon to be regulated dog park in Palos Verdes. Please consider the impact that thousands of people will have upon this stretch of coast if word continues to spread throughout Southern California via Internet reviews, word of mouth, etc….
Help our community oppose the possibility of this becoming a sanctioned dog beach by making your voice heard.
R.P.V council is currently gathering feedback from local community to make a ruling Feb-March, 2012… ACT NOW

I just heard that they are giving out tickets for dogs being off leash? As I don't live in Pv and have only gone a few times I now have dog that lives the beach and we of course want to now go more often but this a bad bad news. Is this true? Is it too late to change this?
We (including our English Springer Spaniel) appreciate the beach access. We visit the beach 2+ times per week and our dog loves to run through the surf and retrieve her tennis balls. Its amazing to watch! Dog owners demonstrate responsible behavior to control their dogs and clean up after the dogs. This is an amazing resource to our community.
