National Pet Adoption Tour stops in L.A. on Saturday
The North Shore Animal League America, National Mill Dog Rescue and Fido Friendly Magazine have teamed up to sponsor the third annual "Get Your Licks on Route 66" pet adoption tour which makes a stop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Los Angeles on Saturday (9/17).
The festivities will be at 545 S. Main St. in downtown L.A.
The event aims to "raise awareness for the plight of homeless pets and the vital services that Bark Avenue Foundation (one of the hosts) and rescue partners provide for the community, while engaging pet lovers in humane education programs."
There will be animals up for adoption, dog washes, raffles, music and food.
Among the messages being relayed is animal safety (Animal Safety Month is October). Protection 1 will be on hand to help attendees learn how to implement a home safety plan. Included are tips such as keeping your pets on the ground floor when you're not home so they're easier to rescue. Pet owners can also consider Protection 1 monitored smoke detectors so the fire department can automatically be dispatched even when you're not home.
